I was thinking that it could be that but it doesnt really make much sense to me about the main issue which is the trouble starting in the mornings especially when its colder out the worse it gets. To me I would think that this would be more of an air/fuel problem. I am not sure but thats what I suspect. Im going crazy not knowing what it is.

ok - knock on wood I cured my rev issue..

Tried cleaning it all up and it didn't do anything to fix the problem..
Well the other day I replaced my hoses to the boost control unit...u know the black thing
on top of the sc...
That fixed the issue...
I was not expeirencing any indecation that they were leaking by the ammount of boost or vac... They just looked a bit worn.

So anyway, there ya go some of u who the previously mentioned fix doesn't work for, give this a shot.

It's not hard, like a 20 minute job the first time you do it, the next time you'll knock it out in no time.

Smile Thank You!

When I first found this thread while searching on Google I wasn't sure if it related to my stock 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS. After reading a good portion of the 13 pages, I was convinced that this might solve my problem. But I'm hesitant to tear apart a new car without good reason. But, I finally got fed up with the car stalling at every red light, and decided to go in.

My car has 45k miles on it, and the problem has slowly been getting worse. Its gotten to the point of being unsafe like the original poster of this thread said. Since I could not find any pictures of how to do this, I took the liberty of posting some from my repair. You can find there here with descriptions in the comments for each one. http://picasaweb.google.com/siasil/Cobalt#

If you find this helpful, please let me know. In addition my Idle went from less than 500 to about 1500+ after cleaning the TB. It has been two days now and its down to 1200 or so. Looks like Chevy must have intentionally raised the RPM's to alleviate this as an issue in the short term.

Thanks for a great thread. It surely fixed my problem! I could not believe how much oil was in the intake when I flipped the plastic piece upside down. That should not be happening with a car of this age! See the pictures above even though they don't do justice to how much oil was in there!

Ive read most of this thread. and sounds like it works. i have a 07 SS/SC with around 25000kms on it and the rpms dont really flutter, they go down like a notch sometimes, but not fluttering. but then sometime the car shakes, like its going to die. The car is under warrenty for to 2012 so i will take it in but right now i have no time , since school and work is sadley my life right now. i just recently bought the car used from kelowna, i heard the gas they get up there is pretty shitty and that fuel filters go fast. but thats just what i heard. Any idea's to what the problem is? tb? sparkplugs? fuel filter?, o yeah at one point it sounded like the engine was kinda nocking. sometimes this sound occurs but rarely.
thanks, brad

Bump.

Only after fiddling with this did I understand a bit more how this disconnected. I fully removed the grey locking tab - but only later wondered if that was necessary. Anyhow, with the grey tab removed, I had to push down on the black release tab and simultaneously pull the connector off. I would add a picture - but I don't see that option.

Stage 2 recommends 93 octane. I run 94, no issues!

Unhappy N E BUD E on here have a 3.5 TB from a 5.3 V8 SS/GXP FWD / 4.2 Vortec from Envoy??

just like the title asks????

when i had my stock TB on and now that i have my 3.5" TB on it has done this ever since I tuned it to my 60lbs injectors with a ZZP Tune!! Clean or a little junk on it (i clean it periodically, like stated b4) i think it is sumthing with the sensors on the vehicle at idle not being able to detect properly at the operating speed!!! as soon as my car hits 1300 rpm idle it runs totally fine!!

My TPS is at 12-13% with the 3.5" V8 SS/GXP TB with the ETC scaler set to 4500 and 19% with the 3" stock ETC scaler set to 2950 (OEM setting) at idle. my stock would jump from 17-23% trying to correct itself....it would find a sweet spot for bout 10-20 seconds and go onto a loop for 40-60sec then find a sweet spot! my 3.5 TB jumps 11-15% finds a sweet spo every 2-3 minutes and runs that for 20 secs or so n loops back into lumpy mode!!!!! it's been sumthin.... i"ve tried fuel filters, air filters, spark plugs, cleaning virtually everything possible, tune after re tune.....it just stays the same unless u run the idle high at like 1100 n it will shift between 900-1200....if i go to 1300 is jsut to damn loud n crazy!!!
the car runs better at cold or first startup (here in ND now it like 20) until it hits bout 100F then it just hates the world and is grouchy!!! which led me to believe a multiplier of sumsort in tuning vs temp thingy!!! NOPE!

i will try this again next weekend when i put my 2.7", dual pass option B, and a arm bushings in.....if it works...it'll b amazing!!! let ya'll know!!

everyone needs to read bout the 3.5 TB addition on separate forums....AWSUM UPGRADE!!! low end is so much more.....allowed my car to almost instantly just break tires loose n burn 'em off thru 2nd startin in 2nd at like 25-30mph by just punchn the gas....no clutchin' ****!!! very nice gains....just don't like this TB issue everyone seems to have!!!

I dont really have this problem but i have noticed from time to time that if i let the rpms drop when stopping it will jump around about 1000 rpms.

Same thing!

Glad to know I'm not the only person w/ these issues. My RPMs bouce like that even when I'm driving. I asked one of my friends about it, he's a certified GM mechanic... he told me to clean the TB. I havent cleaned it yet, but I'm going to after finding this thread! I'm excited to see if this helps my 08 2.2. Its becoming an aggravation to drive, i love the car, but gosh.

You know you can tune out the larger tb idle issue by chaning the scalar area.
