Increasing performance on the Ecotec powered Ariel Atom
Hi guys, I've been lurking here for a while but I thought I would tap into your expertise. I would see what you guys would do to boost performance in the Ariel Atom's engine. Not that I really need it. The car is already scary fast and can spin the tires all the way up through the first part of third. But I thought it would be interesting to hear what you guys would do.
I have an Ariel Atom made in the US by Brammo Motorsports. The US version has the 2.0L supercharged GM ecotec engine. I have the 300hp model. The engine is running what I think is essentially a stage 3 kit. It has a 3" pulley and 60 lbs/hr injectors (I think) and upgraded valve springs (I think). It has a custom intake and custom exhaust and the tune is custom for the car done by Banks Power
The tune is running rich from what I hear from other owners and Brammo is working on an upgrade for us (Brammo has excellent after sales support). But there is probably room to improve there. There is discussion that the intake and exhaust could be larger to gain a little more performance. The exhaust is 2.25" though the car runs about 120db at full throttle (definite loud as hell) so it cant be that restrictive. There is no cat on the car.
Brammo customizes the intercooler endplate to allow more coolant flow (dual pass) though there is discussion amoung atom owners that the intercooler radiator could be a little larger. It is located on the front of the car pointed toward the ground.
So what crazy things would you do to pump up the performance? Is it even possible to get much passed 300bhp on the ecotec without major modification?
Thanks!

after looking at all your pics i can see how you have 300 bhp , the header on the ariel is like an aftermarket header for the cobalt , it actually looks like the one JBP was gonna design they just couldnt get it to fit , i bet you have a bunch of stuff that is different than our cars , looks sweet , if your running a 3.0 pulley and bigger injectors , plus that header i can already believe your at around 240-250 at the wheels which is around 265-280 BHP
theres one of the reasons you have more power than a stock ss/sc

wooow. i wouldn't mind one of those. definately an easy way to bump up power would be to lean the tune out, (duh), and swap for a smaller pulley. i'm wondering how you've pulled 300bhp out of a 3"...what's the redline at? timing? these motors LOVE timing, you cna always bump that up a few degrees. slap a 2.7" pulley on there, maybe a little more timing, leaner tune - you'd be the fastest atom out there!
...not that you'd need to be any faster. you might make me look bad

A dual pass inter cooler plate, from GM, or from one of the vendors would def work in you application.
Many of us use the heat exchanger from a supercharged cobra in addition to our stock one to reduce heat soak.
I don't know if you would be able to mount it as easily as we do though. You may look into a second one that you have and stack it on top of the first one to get added cooling if possible.

Thanks for the replys so far.
Lets see.... Rev limiter at 6800, same m62 supercharger as you guys have. I dont know all what Brammo did to the engine but I dont believe it has that many other customization. In fact several owners have been dynoing a little low (20hp or so below stated) so that is one reason I'm seeing what you guys think. I haven't dyno'd my car yet.
here is a pic of the pulley:
$50K to $100K based on options (especially on how much carbon fiber you include). 6 month build waiting time. Street legal in most states. I'm registered and insured in Oregon. Fast as hell, like scary fast.

Ariel Atom US
Initial Engine Options and Estimated Prices
Est. MSRP w/ minimal options All prices are not final nor are HP numbers.
GM Engines HP figures will likely increase by at least 5-10%
Brammo Ecotec 2.2 $35,000 145 HP/ 155 Ft./lbs.
Brammo Ecotec 2.4 $38,000 171 HP/ 163 Ft./lbs.
Brammo Ecotec 2.0 Supercharged $40,000 171 HP/ 163 Ft./lbs.
Honda K20 (k20z3 Not advertised however likely) $40,250 USDM K20z3 200-225HP
Honda K20 Supercharged $45,750 (K20z3) 290-300HP
The above is unmodified. They come with the stock 2.0 SC engine as far as specs go (I know they modified it to fit in the Ariel). It looks as though he may have some high compression pistions in there because his redline is not awfully high, and his pulley is 3".
