Injen CAI causing CEL, Stumbling
Injen CAI causing CEL, Stumbling
I recently purchased a used 2005 SS/SC from the local dealer, brought it home and discovered it had a stage 2 pulleys and injectors
. This weekend I installed an Injen CAI I bought used for $100, and after the install using the how-to from the forum, I took it for a ride and it stumbled a bit at the beginning, but smoothed out. THe next time I got in the car the CEL was lit, and whenenver I accelerated, it would stumble. I tried disconnecting the battery in an attempt to relearn the MAF, and that did not help. I tightened all of my connections, checked the MAF connector, checked the spark plugs, and everything looks okay. Now anytime attempt a WOT in 1st or second, it falls on its face at about 3000, like when you hit the rev limiter. I am getting terrible mileage, and I am about to take the Injen out and put the stock one back in, but before I go through the nightmare of the inner fender again I thought I would see if anybody else saw this. In the meantime the Z28 is drinking premium like it is its job, so please help. Thanks.
a guy from here had the same problem and he couldnt fix it. He would change to the stock air box and the acr would run fine, when he put the injen on it would fall on its face. His is an 06 and was a demo so it came from the dealer with stage 2 already installed as well.

Hehe...no a dirty throttle body only leads to shitty idle and some acceleration hesitation but not a brick wall at 3k.

I did not disconnect the battery before the install, but I tried disconnecting the battery, unplugging the MAF, reconnecting the MAF and finally reconnecting the battery. It did not help. I am going to dig in to make sure the MAF is in right and that it is sealed to the tube. Is there a gasket or O-ring seal that I may have forgot?
I checked my codes today and retrived a P0101. I removed the inner fender, fired up the car, and sprayed MAF cleaner around all of the joints to see if it would change the idle. I didn't see any leaks, but after re-reading the how-to post, I realized that the new intake should have come with MAF screws, and that the factory ones don't work. I cleaned the MAF with cleaner and reinstalled with the correct screws. After clearing the codes I idled a bit, sis some city driving, and then let the beast out in an industrial park. After the hard driving I got a CEL again, this time a P0103. It seems to run okay still, but last time it didn't run like crap until the next day. Any other suggestions?
I bought it used and thought it was stock. The salesman didn't even know that the SS was supercharged until I opened the hood. They had no idea it had the stage 2. Unfortunately I have no idea what tune it has. It redlines at 7000, so I think it is a GMPP Stage 2, but I am not sure. Does anybody know if there is a way to track a GMPP tune through the dealer. They had to call GM with your VIN when they loaded it. Anyway, it seems that lots of people run a stage 2 with a CAI without issues, or do they?
When you bring it to the dealer and they pull up the info on the vehicle it should say whether or not it has stage II. When I purchased my stage II (which still has yet to be installed) there were special numbers in the instructions that had to be given to the dealership for them to put into the system so when I go to any other dealerships and they pull up my info the stage II info is in there. As far as the problem with the CAI, I have the same one and I have yet to have ant problems. Knock on wood!!!

It's not the tune it's the intake.
I had cleaned the MAF when I last had it out. Anyway when I got in the car today, it did the same thing, so I said F*** it and put the stock intake back on. So far it runs like a champ. Now I am trying to decide if I want to do the airbox mod or just put in a high flow drop in filter, or leave it until I start to do some bigger mods and tune for this at that time.
could it be that the ijen was put on after the stage 2 tune// mine was pre tune and then got the stage kit and never had any problemss seems the ones having problems are the ones that had a stage kit with the stock intake
had the same problem yesterday when i installed my K&N....try moving the fliter down on the tube a lil bit to where its barely on tube...i did that to mine an runs just like when the stock airbox was on
Well, I've been running the stock airbox for about 2 weeks now, and it runs great. WTF? Anyway, I could give a crap about that CAI, now, so are there any recommendations on drop in filters? Anyone know where I can get a reusable high flow drop in? Thanks.
