Injen Intake Install...

For everyone who wants to put an Injen intake on a 06 SS....DON'T DO IT!!! This thing just took me several hours and I still don't know if the filter is gonna stay on because it is rubbing up against the bumper!!! The fitment is HORRIBLE!!! Hopefully now that I have it almost put together the filter won't pop off while driving down the road.

Later,
Vince.

I told you it fits weird. I removed and reinstalled mine 3 times before I was content with it, but I do like the improvement it made

It was cake make sure you have the pipe on correct. I didnt even take off my wheel or bumper. It is that easy. With the 60 degree elbow make sure it is a little back, not straight up.

So how did you bolt the mount up. I think it would be impossible to do without removing the wheel.

I had to bend the bracket that holds it on. It is a PITA..

I just did it too, and it wasn't that easy for me. Fitment didn't work out so well. I'll probably try to work on it some more some other time.

1. Tape over the parts the intake will hit because the intake will get scratched if you dont.
2. Make sure the grounding bolt by the intake is shorted too!
3. Have plenty of patience with it.

The install is a major PITA that is something we all agree on, but how do you guys feel performance wise? I'm happy with it. It seems like it responds a lot better to even minor throttle input

I concur on the better throttle response, however I let a few more days to pass by before I really judge it.

Note, if you put the elbow "a little back" this pushes the intake farther into the fender. I know this because I've already tried it. I got away with some scratches on the intake...but it's not going to be a show car and they are hardly noticeable. All that Injen needs to do is change the bracket a little and make it to where it doesn't stick out so much. I am DEFINATELY impressed with the power gains and the wonderful screaming the blower does at WOT. I am also showing about an extra pound of boost on the guage, which I was expecting. So, performance wise it is good but I have used an Injen intake before on my old tiburon and it was nothing like this one was...I just hope it lasts and that the filter stays on there.

And as far as not having to take the wheel off, your full of crap!!!

Later,
Vince.

I agree there is no way possible to install this intake with the wheel on.

haha you know you can turn your wheel all the way out. No joke. You have a steering wheel right? You just have to deal with the damn pain of the screws and push in plastic BS. Maybe my mounting backet was fine I dont know, I didnt have to adjust anything. Yes it is close to the bumber but it isnt touching. Me and my buddy had it jack up pretty far and we could do most of the work from under the car. Plz dont get mad at me cause I found a easy way. Hell it only took 1 hour and 15 mins.

If you are that gifted then it would have only taken you about 15 min if you had removed the wheel. Anyway congrats on an impossible install.

With the right tools and an open mind, there is no reason to take the wheel off. Maybe you people shouldn't be doing your own installs if you have that many problems with them. I'm not trying to be rude, but I have seen many people working on cars that should not even be allowed to pop the hood.

Has anyone thought about putting a few layers of Duct Tape over the end of the bolt to avoid scraping? Seems like a simple solution to me.

I didnt that with the screw, just put some tape over it.

Little do you know it takes time to jack up a car and take of the plastic protection parts. This isnt my first rodeo buddy. Also Thanks for doubting me I like it.

The bolt wasn't an issue on my car it was the mounting bracket that just didn't seem to be bent right, so I bent it the way I needed it. It still hits the fender. SwissDSMS, when did you order your intake? Maybe yours was built right and the rest of ours were a rush job.

I order it Dec 22nd and got it Yesterday. Yea it took a while. I got it thru Gravana. That is weird because the mounting bracket slid in perfect for me. Hey what color is yours? Mine is BLACK. I wonder if that has any thing to do with it?

I helped SwizzDSMSS with install. It really wasn't that bad. If you think this install is impossible then maybe you should take the car to a shop and have them do for you. It was a very tight fit with no room for error. The trick was to rotate the 60 elbow clockwise a little bit.

WTF? This is the second intake I have owned and I have been working on cars my whole life as a hobby. Even though your not trying to be rude, smart ass comments aren't welcomed. I just took the wheel off to get some extra room in there. This thread is not about being able to install the damn thing with the tire on. It's about a serious fitment issue that I have experienced with my intake.

Also, duct tape over what bolt? I didn't have hardly any problems with scraping.

Now I remember why I quit posting on forums...

SwizzDSMSS-- Do you have a picture of how that 60 degree elbow is?

I have to readjust mine because not only is it hitting inside the bumper, but it is also rubbing on the metal just below the grounding screw! Looks like I'll be painting or touching it up some how.
