lol yeah ok man. its cuz the K&N sucks.

I know its hard to swallow that the CAI is basically a waste of money if you just want performance.

but there it is. thats the truth.

and you still didnt answer exactly why an injen gives more HP than an airbox mod with the same filter.

I have had three different intake setups, c/a cai, k&n cai, and airbox, and i did not really notice any difference maybe in sound, but to the normal driver they arent going to feel the mnimal difference bewteen the two if any.

I just installed an Injen over the weekend, it was used and I got it for a fair price. I was using the airbox mod with a dry-flo for about a year. I "felt" a slight gain in low end power with the CAI. Here's my .02. The stock tubing where it exits the airbox has some odd bends and narrows considerably in spots. I would think that an after market CAI flows better as the tubing is larger and a consistent diameter end to end. How much extra gain? Don't know since I didn't do any before/after measurements. Which I'd like to see if anyone has any. I'd bet there would be some over all increase. But I know I wasn't willing to pay full price for a new CAI to get it....

Eh.. I got my Injen for dirt cheap from CPP (less than 100$, one time deal). Beats an airbox mod for me anyday looks purdy under my hood.

this is how i look at it. i might as well spend 200 bucks on something i paid 20k for. so far my injen hasn't let me down and the sounds is sweet. it was a lot louder than i thought it would be, but that was a good thing.

I would have to agree with the plastic having less heat soak(depending on the plastic). I would also say that there would be very little gain over the air box mod for the CAI but there would be some. Correct me if I am wrong because it has been awhile since I have seen the stock intake but there are ridges on the tube to cause turbulence, and I think the tube MAY be smaller than the injen. I for one went with CAI over the air box mod because I didn't want to hack up my stock air box incase I had to put it back in for warranty purposes.

Horsepower per dollar, spending $200-300 on a cold air just doesn't seem worth it...

ok, its pretty simple, if you have ever thought of buying an engine dress kit, if you like opening your hood to show people your engine, if you want an extra loud whine, get a C.A.I. if you dont want to spend much money and just want the extra hp and noise level, do the airbox mod.

it kills me that people give me crap for buying a C.A.I. but dont bat an eye when someone buys an engine dress kit.

braineater and KillerBee check your rep you just got some + from me. To each his own. when I was a kid and broke I was the same way about mods as far as performance goes and couldn't see wasting the money on something I can get for free or damn close to it. Now that I am older and have money I would like certain stuff to perform in both ways as far as looks and performance.

I don't have my hood open while i'm walking on people in drag race's so i don't need a CAI to be installed on my car.
