Yowsah, didn't realize i'd get so many comments. my rationale for the economical mod is pretty simple...
$50 for a filter that adapted well and let me hear the SC whine was a no brainer. Being that I'm stock for now, I highly doubt a full intake for $200 would give me any noticeable gain in DD performance over keeping stock piping and high flow filter. $150 extra in the bank
I work a lot, but $$ saved is $$ earned. I have over $11k in debt from credit cards due to past bad-spending habits, but hey that's neither here nor there, I was younger and half of it is from paying my way through college. Parents made too much for financial aid, and my grades weren't great for a year so I didn't qualify. 2 semesters at a SUNY school + books = nearly $6000!
So now I go ahead and get the SS Sc, which I've wanted since the commercial came out where the cobalt goes nose-to-nose with the vette with its lights on in a dark parking lot (any1 remember that commercial??) and I started seeing em on the road. Sure enough, now I'm forking over big $$ for payments and getting out of debt, $50 vs. $200 is good.
I will get the intake when I save up and go for the OTTP Stage 1, whereas shortly after I will go for the dual pass and cobra heat exchanger. My buddy from school has the exchanger just chillin in his garage, if he doesn't sell it I'll pick it up for maybe a $100 or so. After that... We'll see how much lower my debt is from working 60+ hours a week throughout the summer.
For now, I love the whine. Finally sounds like I have a friggin SC. I made this post to state to those that have stock intakes without plans for heavy modding in the immediate future. Get the stock air box out, throw in a cheap high flow, and enjoy the sound. And hell, maybe I picked up 2HP while I was at it

I have the same K&N also and love it, I could not find a good deal on ebay so I found a discount coupon here: K&N E-1009, or you can try one of the vendors on the forum here, you can usually find a good deal that way as well. This was very easy to install and I love it.

well, cuz the stock box is uber restrictive. it has those tiny holes on the bottom, and that funnel shaped top part just makes for another bend the air has to go thru. it's also so that we can clamp an aftermarket filter onto the stock plastic ring without it falling off. the bottom holds the stock filter on, and i removed that. the whole K&N filter is exposed now
here is the one that i got....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-07...Q5fAccessories
