interceptor question

I have an Aeroforce Interceptor guage on my 2005 Cobalt ss/sc. I have tried to plug the obd2 port into a redline and another ss/sc 06 or 07 while leaving the power on my car. It wont turn on when plugged into their cars but will work when I plug it into mine. I dont want to unplug the power as it is run undr my dash.

Is it just not compatable with their cars?

The interceptor is powered though the external plug... but grounded though the OBD2 plug.
So, you need to power it from the same car as the OBD is plugged into.

I dont want to kinda steal topic a little, but, when I actually connect it to the power wire from the boost gauge that was originally there, it keeps the car on for a couple of seconds, even after I take the key out, and keeps on the gauges for about 15 minutes or so after the key is out. But, when I dont connect it to the Boost Gauges power wire, and just into the OBD port, it wont turn on with the car on, only when I take it out, and then replug it in. It shuts off though with the car with the lights though then. Thanks for the help in advance.

??? dont really understand what u are asking but u need a power wire as our cars dont supply power through the obd2 port. There are 3 "type's" of power to tap into 1) always on, 2) turns on/off immediately with ignition, 3) turn's on with ignition and stays on 15 mins after ignition turned off or door opened which ever comes first.

I checked the wiring, and nothing is plugged into the back except for the OBD plug. It is not connected to a ground or power.

If I try to connect to a power wire (the same one the stock boost gauge uses), the car will run after I take the key out of the ignition. Any thoughts on what would cause this?

Because now... I have to wait for the car to start and then plug it into my OBD port.

on the back of the intercepter there is a jumper that you have to remove for it to work properly. it should be green

I didnt even think of running it to a new fuse. That is probably what I will end up doing. I am usually pretty decent with electrical stuff which is why I dont think I would give up without trying all combinations of wires. I will look forward to the pictures though.

well i've done a few and what i did was take out the jumper and get a mini make a fuse kit with a 10 amp fuse hooked into empty fuse holder 22 on your fuse panel. give that a try. that was the only way i could get them to work properly

Okay. I will give that a shot tomorrow. I have a couple of inline fuses that I can use. 22 on the panel is an ignition based one? I will try that and let you know how it works.

ya 22 should work on the same type of shut off as your radio so when you open your door it kills the power. and i also found out that the intercepters are picky about which inline fuses they are put on.

Lol. I have had this thing for almost a year now, every time I get into my car, I reach down, unplug it from the last session, and then replug it back in for the new trip. Lol.
I will be willing to try a bunch of inlines until one works, and if not, I could hook straight up, and then get a fuse once I find out that it works that way.

So, by your pictures, it looks like I only need the power (red), and the one that goes down to the OBD port?

By the way, is that 2 interceptors?

and ya the red one is all you need. the other 2 wires are for some other type of input that i can't remember what it is at this moment.

Yes those are duals! I haven't read the whole thread so here is another picture of everything connected from the back. After I read what you are wanting to do I will post again.

Joey I would highly suggest using an Add-A-Fuse because it is so much easier and you don't have to cut into any wires. I would also put the gauge on a switch so you can turn it on and off when ever you want. And yes the red is for the power and the other to I believe are for the analog options.

What is the add a fuse? I was going to use just a simple like 15A or 10A inline fuse, which I assumed is what you meant by Add-A-Fuse. Are these different things?

Ohh.. Never-mind, just Googled it. Now I see what you mean. Can you pick those up anywhere (like Advanced or Autozone)?

I got mine at Autozone so I would think that all auto supply store would carry them.

Okay, cool. I will pick one of those up to wire this into. This is going to be so much better than always having to do the whole plugging it in thing.

Okay, so, an update.

I don't know if my Interceptor is ever going to work right.

I tried the Add-A-Fuse and it didnt work. I still had to unplug it and then plug it back in to make it work. Each time I tried something different to test, I first tried the car just in the On Position, then, if that didnt work, I cranked the engine and started it, then, if it still didnt work (about 1 minute waiting each) I would unplug it, then plug it back in.

I got frustrated that it still didnt work, so, I connected it straight to the battery terminal under the hood. I connected it to the red wire on the back of the interceptor... And.. Still nothing, even when I tryed turning it over and starting the car.

I think I am just going to have to accept that mine is a bad luck one. (not really, it still works when I unplug it, and then plug it back in when the car is already on)

did you take the jumper off the back of the intercepter cuz it should work if you do that. i didn't do that and was getting the same symptoms as you on the ones i have installed. and then decided to take that off and it worked like a charm and is still working on those cars

The jumper? Pictures please? Is it that little red block that is to the right (I think side). It looks like it is on there pretty good, or looks like it could be a spot to stick another plug?
