I've got a question *waiting to put flamesuit on just in case*

Okay everyone, I ordered the clear image 4 into 1 header and downpipe. My question is, is there any tunning I could do to get the full affect from the header and dp. Also if you could tell me what would be needed to change via hptuners and what to look at when tunning. Im asking cuz I really am new to modding cars and don't know much about the lsj. I know someone with hptuners who did a "stock tune" on my buddies ss/sc today and the tuner also owns a ss/sc. Sorry if its a dumb question and please don't flame me for asking

you can tune a stock car. yes. but the gains will be very minimal. if you feel like spending the money, get an intake, 42's, and a 2.9. then get a tune. and you will see better performance gains.

SHS easy chief he was just making a point that if you tuned your car and it's basically stock your gains will be minimal...5-10 HP max (probably not even worth the $300 or so dollars your going to spend on it). If you got bigger injectors, a pulley, and an intake to compliment your header and DP you're gains will be a lot more.

are you stock or stage 2??? if your stage 2 there can be 10-15hp gained from just cleaning the tune up a bit, as stage 2 is rather sloppy.

If you're running your factory GM tune it can definitely be improved upon because they are basically a generic tune and a pretty crappy one at that. However is 5 HP worth $300+ to you? Especially since you're gonna have to spend it all over again if you upgrade your pulley or injectors in the future...

no i read it. you have airbox mod, header and d/p from cia. what exactly is it that you're calling a "stock tune" from hpt. if your pcm is stock right now, leave it that way till you go down in pulley size and up the injectors. getting a tune after just a header and dp isn't really worth it.

Lol im going to try and clear this up. My only mods are air box mod. I am tuned with hptuners for the airbox mod. The header and dp is being shipped monday..... I was mainly wondering if a retune after the install of header and dp would open her up more than just installing the header and dp. See im a newb with mods lol

just install the header and DP and drive it the gains to be had by tuning at this juncture aren't even remotely worth it...

wait...I should ask does the DP have a cat?

no, it will not be worth it. and the air box mod doesn't really increase power by more than 1/2whp haha. its just sound. you picked up maybe 3-4whp with your current tune.

He might need to have someone go in with HP tuners if he doesn't have a cat to turn off the CEL for the 2nd O2 sensor...

And sorry guys, im posting via sidekick so that's why I am a little behind on the post. I just read yours dvl lol. And although the header and dp was only 350 bucks or so im happy with that purchase. And no im not trying to get you to tell me to go tune. I was honestly just wondering if tunning was worth it after install of header and dp. Sorry for the big confusion

well a tune is not worth it but taz brought up what i completely looked over. unless you want a cel till you get a smaller pulley w/ larger injectors and a real tune. have someone take hpt and get rid of the rear O2 sensor.
