Japeatr's knocking at the track rebuild thread

So Lone Star Bash was fun times!

Had traction and shifting lockout issues but managed a 13.73 @ 113.6mph on street tires

Based on trap speed, car should be low 12s with a granny 3rd gear shift

After about a dozen runs on spray and a few without spray, I shut the car down to have some beers while DFWGMElite was cleaning up the event. When I fired it up to put it back on the trailer, the engine had a nasty rod knock.

So I dragged it home on the trailer, pulled VC...nothing out of the ordinary, pulled the oil plu...bingo this huge metal flake was on the magnetic drain plug....FML

Time to rebuild again....

Pulled the block, and removed the head, spun number 3 rod bearing. Ruined the crank and all the bearings. Rods need reconditioning

FAQ:
I was spraying nitrous in 2nd and 3rd.

Q: How much boost was it running?
A: 27psi

Q: how much timing?
A: 26*

Q: How high did you rev?
A: 8,000rpm

Q: how much nitrous?!
A: 75 wet starting at 4500 rpm amd going until 7500 rpm

Mods:
ZZP Girdled Gen 1 Block
Diamond 9.5:1 Pistons (may switch to 10.5:1 for the rebuild)
Oversized wrist pins
Total Seal Rings
Pauter rods
ARP Rod bolts
ARP Head Studs
Ported Head
ZZP Stage 2 cams (now sold, going with a custom set of cams)
ATI Super Damper
ZZP 82# valvesprings
(Just Deleted Balance Shafts)

TVS with 2.6" pulley
Dual Pass/Opt B
Stage 2 Belt
Oversized Tensioner Pulley
Relocated Stock HE

ZZP3" intake
CIA Midlength Header with 1 3/4" primary and custom downpipe
Hahn 3" Exhaust

ID1000s (for sale)
Powell Custom Fuel System with Surge Tank and Bosch 044 inline pump
DW300 lph pump in tank
OTTP Return Style Fuel System

NX 75 wet shot with MSD window switch and purge

So the plan is to Resleeve with Belvedere spun moly sleeves, to compliment my girdles block
Bore sleeves for new Diamond 10.5:1 pistons (I believe I had too much piston to wall clearance on the original Diamonds)
arp timing bolts (have)
Electric Water Pump
Delete Balance Shafts (Done)
BIG CAMS!
190# injectors
2.4" TVS Pulley
Solid lash adjusters
Jet Nitrous for 100shot wet

Any thoughts...

Wait so the car went 13.7 and blew up? I don't know if I'd have it in me to rebuild after that

It took me a while to get over the fact that I blew the side of the block open on the yellow car. GLWRebuild, hopefully you have better luck with the bearings this time around. Any over-revs happen while at the event?

Regarding the low ETs. I was not there for glory numbers ...lol was more tuning the setup
I was on 225/40/18 KDW2s (my street setup) launching to keep wheel spin in check

My biggest hurdle with the ET was the car did not want to shift into 3rd at 8k.

I had turned the stock flywheel and I think that thickness was causing issues with clutch travel on my GMPP

I had a built motor, just found a weak link in it, rebuild and move on... part of racing

The pauter rods were out of Paul (06BlackG85SS) turbo car. ZZP installed them when they assembled the Girdled block. I think the clearances may not have been perfect

Only bummer is I killed my crank with extended keyway

Match the pistons to the cam and don't go with off the shelf diamonds for the build. You will melt or crack a ring land.

I think I'm going with your stage 4s, but I need them degreed that will negate the need for the adj cam gears

Cam gears are how you degree them. There is no other way.

Are Bates and GMPP the only options for cam gears?

I think you had too much timing in it with the shot.
May consider pulling some next time around.
I'm sure IAT's weren't too friendly either

Appreciate it man. To be honest the motor had 3300 miles on it, first time to the track with the new setup, raced it a few times on the street to dial in the fuel system

Takes time to work out all the weak links
