Just Bought a 06 SS/SC with Failed Engine Swap

Hey everyone. I just bought a 06 SS/SC from some idiot kid that tried to swap in a 07 2.2 Ecotec into it and he couldn't get it running. No kidding.

So I yanked it out and found a 30k mile LK9 from a Saab to swap in. I've done some research on the swap. I know the cams are different along with the cam gears. Also, the exhaust ports are smaller and the intake manifold studs are smaller. I'm not too worried about the cams being turbo cams and not blower cams. I am gonna change the cam gears that I have from the LSJ over to the LK9 so I don't have any problems with the cam sensor or start-ups. That leads me to my first question. Can I change the cam gears without having to pull the whole front cover off or can I get away with changing one at a time by the valve cover and tensioner?

Second problem is that I need an cam sensor housing/sensor since the LK9 is different. Also need some sort of blockoff plate for the intake cam. On the LK9 the intake cam drives the power steering pump. I'm assuming since the LSJ head is basically the same as the LK9 the LSJ must have some type of block off plate that covers the end of the intake cam.

Next problem is, I don't have all the accessories from the 2.0 LSJ to swap over to the LK9. The kid lost them or something. When I pulled the trans, this kid only had 2 bolts in the flywheel. He tried using the LSJ flywheel on the L61 2.2. He was actually going to run it like this. Clutch disc was soaked in brake fluid(?). No trans fluid in trans. It goes on and on with the scary/shady stuff. They didn't have a clue, obviously.

So, I'm looking for the following LSJ parts as of right now.
-LSJ Alternator
-LSJ Tensioner Assembly (Roller)
-LSJ IC Pump Bracket
-LSJ Crank Pulley
-LSJ Cam Sensor/Housing
-LSJ Intake Cam Blockoff Plate(?)

I think that's it for now. If there are any other things you guys/gals can think of or warn me of that would be great. Is there also a belt tensioner arm that has a 3 inch ribbed pulley on it that's different than the roller type? I can't post in the classifieds yet since I'm new so I'll have to wait.

Thanks for any advice or links to any of the parts above that someone has for sale. Thanks, Jason

sounds like a lot of unnecessary work instead of just finding a LSJ to put back in it that you know will work. my suggestion is PM mongorat and see if he can get you a motor but he'd probably also be able to get whatever other parts you'd want too

I read that the LK9 cam gears don't have the same notches as the LSJ cam gears so the LSJ cam sensor has trouble picking up the signal.

I'll get a hold those guys. thanks.

the lsj cam sensor is in the back of the exhaust cam not at the front on the sprocket, it works off a hex in the cam; the hex has an inserted shaft, part of the cam position sensor housing, this housing has a hall effect magnetic sensor in it. THe SAAB did not use a cam position sensor iirc so you have to install that housing and have a hex in the back of the cam. all i know about that.

Yup, you are right. Not sure what I was thinking or read. So I should be able to just get the correct lsj cam sensor and its housing and be ok?

Well, please tell me that you bought a gold medal for this kid!!!! He deserves it if he really swapped the LSJ block with the 2.2

I just found a complete cylinder head off a 07 Cobalt SS with 41k on it for $200 plus shipping. That should take care of those above issues. A member on here has an alternator and tensioner that I'm going to purchase. Getting closer. Just gonna sell this LK9 head. It looks brand new. Might put it in the classifieds here or on saabcentral. I have the turbo plus coolant/oil lines for sale, turbo exhaust manifold, and intake manifold to sell too. Thanks again for all the info. -Jason
