Just Curious
Ok guys so im just bored and have been watching some intake videos for the SS/SC. I really have never been to fond of "CAIs" especially on our cars because of how the factory intake is run. However, it seems like the CAI's would be very prone to sucking up water. Although i have not read very many stories of people hydrolocking their motors, i was just wondering what precautions those of you running aftermarket intakes are taking in order to not suck up water.
Also, is there any particular brands that have not thrown codes?
Next, how many people running GMPP stage 2 have had leaning out problems?
I have heard of problems with many different cars having problems with K&N filters because of the oil they use. Is this an issue with you guys using K&N? How many others have had problems because of the filter oils with other brands?
Thanks guys!

I had the injen in all last year with no codes, no problems. I drove through some intense rain storms too.
I had one of the first ones and did have fitment issues with it which is why i've ordered the revised one.

ok so were you just running the filter or did you have the little plastic thing that goes over it?
I have the K&N CAI and when I was stock it threw a CEL, but when I got flashed with the GM Stage 2, I never had the problem again. Now I have the 2.6 pulley with everything else and no CEL. Water wise, I've never had a problem with it and hope it stays that way haha.
thanks for the info!
I have a cavalier thats dropped pretty low and i have the AEM CAI on it. What i did was order the bypass valve that make for the vehicle and avoid driving through giant dips in the road. It sucked up water once before i bought that valve and my car didnt run for about three days and threw out some thick smoke. But after a while it all cleared out and ran like a champ again. I have the 2.2l ecotec in my cav if it helps any.
pretty much all CELs thrown due to intakes have been caused by filter oil, or a bad install.
Its not that oiled filters suck, they have been a part of performance vehicles a long time....but the simple fact is....the new dryflow technology, coupled with the pretty high sensativity of this cars MAF sensor, means dry filters are just the smart way to go.
Theres a good chance you could use an oiled filter setup and never have a single issue. Lots of people do. But if you could remove the chance of that problem caused by oil on your sensor....why wouldnt you
thats the question.

I installed my AEM Dryflow CAI before the stage 2. I never once had a CEL, and still yet to experience a CEL. AEM dryflow is the way to go. These filters are also water resistant, the only way you are going to have problem with water is if the filter itself is submerged. I live in Louisiana... and when it rains, it poors, and I have never had a problem at all. So unless you plan on doing some deep sea driving, you'll be fine.
short shifter
Just a quick hello, this is my first posting and I am wondering if anyone knows the part # for a B & M short shifter, and what the visual and performance differences are...

im not being a dick but search , you will answer your question way quicker than one of us ,but the visual differences is that its shorter and it has a rubber looking like circular thing at the top instead of our ball and the performance differences are you can get through the gears faster bc its a shorter throw , ive also heard shifting firmness is improved , i dont have one but i search and this is the info i have gotten out of it

so sounds like fthe only really important thing is that i stick with an AEM dryflow filter, seems like the piping on all the systems is nearly identical. agreed about the dry flow?

I have the Injen and the Hyrdoshield covering it incase any water does try and get its way up there. The AEM is a dry filter if I'm not mistaken, so what happens if that gets wet? Granted, it probably filters the best, but that Hrydroshield helps in filtering too!
