K&n cai cel?

Today i just put on my K&N typhoon intake on and at first all was good, the install was easy, it sounded great and i got no CEL. But later in the day the light came on. What exactly is the code for and how can i get rid of it? I thought the computer was supposed to relearn the new flow of air and the light shouldnt come on?

The code is p0171 on bank 1 and 2. It says they are running too lean, what can I do to fix this?

Check your intake for leaks.

You Might need to get retuned.

Im pretty sure there are no leaks in the intake and Im pretty sure the car is tuned to GM stage 2. Shouldnt the computer relearn the airflow?

Youd think it would. But if the intake line is a diffrent size then stock, the sensor only sensinge a small portion of the airflow, is calculating the total airflow based on the stock induction line, not the K&N Typhoon. Intense put a K&N intake as part of my tune in mine, but I dont have GM Stage tune at all. Try calling K&N and asking them. I asked them about a rich code I was getting that the GM Tech swore was being caused by my intake (wich was 100% bullshit)
Oh Did you connect your crank case vent hose to your intake? If you left that off, it would intake excess air, and throw you lean. I noticed mine doesnt hold on very well and even with the clamp very tightcan still be just pulled off. Also, Does/has your PCM heat sink worn a hole in your intake where they meet? If they dont meet how much clearance do you have?

Well, i took the unhooked the battery and let it sit for about 20 minutes, then i ran the car at idle hoping it would get used to it. I looked at the intake and the crank case vent hose is on and so is everything else but im gonna check the connections for small leaks.

And sorry for being a noob lol but whats PCM mean?

PCM = Powertrain Control Modual. (The computer for your engine)

Disconecting your battery for 20 minutes, is probably a good idea.

Well I know when i had that same code it was caused by the boot not being sealed properly. Also check to see your MAF is secured & sealed and not just in there.

How tightly should the MAF be secured in? and is there any other way that I can seal the other parts of the intake?

Not sure, im pretty sure there only one way you can put it in because of where the screw holes are. The code also came back last night, so im gonna try to reseal all of this and mess with the MAF, is this doesnt work i guess i will need an alternative method to fix it.

No your fine. now It won't go off right then your car has to go through so many cycles. Like leave it alone and one day you will be driving and it will go off. Im driving with a crank position sensor code on my car right now and my car is running fine.

Today the code went off and i hooked up the OBDII computer and it said there was no code. Does this mean that the computer relearned like i had hoped? and everything is working properly?
