Wow, thats really expensive if thats the actual price. Maybe thats Canadian dollars, but somehow I doubt it is...

I'll be the first to admit that K&N intakes are some of, if not the best intakes, around. They have a nice warranty, great instructions, and they fit perfectly and come with all the hardware you need.

However, you have to draw the line somewhere, and that price is way to high. It seems that K&N prices their intakes by vehicle MSRP, vehicle type, and demand, instead of actual development and material costs. Take a look at an K&N intake for a Corvette or Viper - the price is outrageous, even though it doesn't cost anymore to make than an intake for a Cavalier or Civic.

If the actual price is $378, I have a feeling a lot more people will be going with AEM or Injen - which is ashame, because for the right price K&N intakes really are awesome

K&N is price gouging, end of story. They are first to market and there are plenty of buyers, so they are trying to make a big profit now before the market gets filled with competitors. I bet the price will come down eventually. K&N you suck. Almost $400...

maximumboost all the way.

Is that the going price or retail price? If its the retail price, its probably going to be about $280-$300 going price.

Just look at the 1-piece tube. By the throttle body, that has to be cut and welded, because the two bends are so close to eachother, that a tube bending machine can't bend that close. Then, by the MAF there is a larger section welded on.....all that welding of tube is what's sending the price thru the roof.

Well, if you want to read the TSB, I took a screen shot of it (as Mitchell wouldn't let me copy and paste the text. Save the pic and blow it up if you have problems reading it.

The lady says it costs $378.00 plus tax!!!!!!!! That is nuts! I'm definately going with Maximum Boosts setup which has the same HP gains. Their whole setup shipped is only $199.00. I talked to Frank online last night and he says their numbers will be just as good as K&N from what he saw in testing. So lets all hope that this all turns out for the best.
Tom
since i know a bit about the production process for car equipment i called k&n to get the skinny. i thought something was funny because just a few days ago they posted the picture of the finished product on their website and production, requiring retooling etc. and various other things it didn't make sense that they would be for sale tomorrow.

the guy i talked to said he wasn't aware of anything being for sale tomorrow and he said if they are it's a pre-sale and anyone that pays msrp for the product on a pre-sale isn't the brightest bulb around. which i agree with.

so don't worry guys it's still going to be weeks before it is "actually" available, but is is not going to be $400 when you buy it from a vendor

Repeated dyno testing on K&N’s in-house dyno produced an 8 hp improvement with 7 ft-lb. more torque at the wheels.

What you guys are forgetting is these people take the time, spend the money to make it fit and conduct testing to ensure your getting a great product. The money suggested price is a bit high but that's what you get for buying a quality product with a assurance backup on it (warranty, it will fit, tech support etc..)

You should be so privliaged that they even made an intake for our cars. I'm sure that Frank makes a good product too but keep in mind about what intake you get.... your liable to find out that it does better then suggested and just wasted money on another company's product because you couldnt wait.

Why did K&N remove his announcement about the CAI for the SS ? I wrote a e-mail on August 16 to know what's up with the CAI, and they reply me this on August 25 :

K&N will have an intake available for the 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt SS available within the next 30 days. The part number will be 69-4516TS. The kit will be a cold-air configuration, with a one-piece long tube which relocates the filter outside the engine compartment. No horsepower gains or dyno charts are available yet, but MSRP will be $375. Thanks for writing,

I Hope that people who already ordered it will not have to wait and wait and wait ...

Very nice! But I think I'm going to go with a custom 3" diameter intake. More hp gain for same price.

hm I think that the dry flow filter from aem is looking a bit nicer in terms of gains from a simple filter. I think I am holding back judgement and purchase until I have 3 solid platforms to choose from

Im with you on that one. Or I may just spend the $50 something dollars and just get the AEM filter and do the airbox mod.

Anyone else look at the Dynochart and see that it was done in 2nd gear? Will the results carry over to the other gears about the same, increase, or decrease?

from the install instructions you have to jack the car up and remove the wheel valence everytime you want to check the filter. that's a bit much imho.

Yeah Yeah and its too much money . How do people spend this money on their car, what a WAIST. Ah Not really. Go ahead with your custom junk and just replaceing the filter but as previous dynos showed the filter replacement can take power away and custom stuff never seems to work right . If your going to do it do it right. I'm getting one for sure.

You have to do that anyways if you change your own stock air filter

I would almost argue you could *Check* the filter by removing the head lamp with the K&N setup. Lot easier than removing the tire.

i haven't really looked into the air filter mod thread but you mean to tell me that the stock air filter is way over there too? if it is, i've found the first thing that i don't like about my car. that's a lot of work for an air filter. but i guess it would only need to be checked every two to three years so that's not that bad in retrospect.
