knocking and popping? axel?

I've noticed in the past week or so when driving if I turn the wheel back and forth as if I were doing a slalom I can hear a slight popping knocking type sound. Do you think it's an axel?? If not what could it be?

Steering motor or column play. Have you had the PS motor replaced under the recall?

Or is it a repeated popping while turning? Your description makes me think it's only when going from left to right.

I have the same problem as well as a constant pull to the left. I've had it aligned, etc, but it still pulls which leads me to believe its related to whatever is popping. I'll let you know if I get it figured out. It also pops when I start in reverse, like something in front end is loose or something

I haven't done the recall either.

mine did it before the recall. i thought it was the ps motor but it wasnt it still pops. a local cobalt owner said he took it to the chevy place and they fixed it. but i will ask him what it was making the noise.

My car was put on the lift tonight, also can get it over bumps now and again.

Mine is when you slalom and lift pressure off the left front, aka the return steer to the right.

It's a popping as if something's loose. One of my tech's drove it and hasn't gave me any solid ideas, strut mount is hopeful as I already have an upgraded MOOG endlink on that side.

all this sounds just like what i am experiencing. I have some pull to the left. a noticeable pull, but i kinda thought it was just cause my front left tire has a slow leak.

I get the same noise when I turn back and forth also. It happens rarely when I go over bumps, but I think it has to be the right type of bump or bulge in the road to get it to pop. After it does it like 2-3 consecutive times it usually doesnt do it anymore. Its done it since I got the car and I have no clue. I thought maybe front LCA bushings or ball joint but I dont think its either. Would like to see what else people think. However my car doesnt seem to have the pull at all that has been mentioned.

edit: I have a 2.2 also. just notice its in LSJ tech.

Sounds like a strut mount possibly.

Only takes a drop of a few PSI to cause a pull.

Also could be worn control arm bushings.

No pull here either, making me weary of it being CAB's.

Can you feel it in the steering column? I always thought it was the intermediate shaft needing lube or replacement.

Both of my cobalts did it, like a knuckle popping or something

Swaybar endlink was my thought too, a Moog unit and $50 later it's not .

CAB's checked out, and I've always pulled the struts and springs apart to go Eibach's to stock and the noise still existed. Might swap upper mounts and test that.

Mine comes when I take weight off of that side, aka on left side, comes when I slalom the wheel to the right.

Until mine breaks, I'm taking time off from caring. Do a visual on it, but mine checked out. I am consdering it being a strut mount.

I wanna try and get coilovers next summer so if it lasts that long maybe that will fix it or the problem will be found then. Oh well. It's winter now so no more boost anyways lol.

Has anyone learned anything new about this problem? I have the same exact thing and it drives me insane. I have the pull to the left also, and thats the worst part.

my popping actually i believe went away, but i still have some cruncy type sound on any rough surface for instance speed bumps or dips in the pavement. When i got my new tires about a month ago they believed it could possibly be a bushing.
