looking for opinions, wanting to rev to 8k
looking for opinions, wanting to rev to 8k
Mods so far:
RAW 3" SS intake, LS4 TB, Ported/Polished blower (inlet ported to clear TB), Dual-pass Opt B, ZZP S3 heat exchanger, 80# injectors, BKR7E, ZZP mid-length header (1 3/4" primaries) and cat-less down pipe, ZZP 3" SS cat-back, TTR solid trans mounts, 3" tensioner pulley, S2 belt, custom HP tune by me.
The 80's everyone says are over-kill on an M62, but my 60's couldn't keep up on E85. I have a log somewhere showing my AFR gradually leaning out from 6100 up, the 80's fixed it. No idea why I was over-running 60's with my mods, but 80's hold up fine to E85 or E47
.
I'm not sure if I want to go turbo or TVS long term, so was thinking in the mean time I would just do ported head/springs since it will benefit either.
Sorry about the wall of text, figured background would be helpfull. My question is, aside from valve springs, what else do you guys consider required to run an 8k redline? I'm mostly wondering about balance shafts. Do I need to switch to neutral-balance shafts/delete them? If I don't will the engine rattle it's self to pieces or just wear things a bit faster? If I do need to switch balance shafts should I go neutral or delete? I'm asking for 2 reasons. First is cost, why buy parts I don't need? Second is install, I have very limited experience pulling an engine and would rather not if I don't need too, installed the shafts while the engine is in the car looks very difficult or impossible.
Aside from balance shafts am I missing anything else? I've seen some people talk about changing the balancer, necessary or not?

As I said, I'm doing this to get power now and mainly to support future upgrades. As such I'm not as worried about how I can best optimize the setup now, but more what I need to keep the engine safe at those RPM's.
I would get NBS or BS delete but as said above the M62 goes home for lunch about 6500rpm and doesn't come back. I see what your saying about for the future, so you can get the stuff now if you feel the need, but I wouldn't rev that high theres really no point
Taking balance shafts out while motor is still in is possible. I just did it and put neutral in. The back one isnt as bad as the front. I had to take sub frame bolts out and lower the motor a lot. Wasnt horrible
