Lower Motor Mount???
Lower Motor Mount???
I took this picture while I was underneath my SS changing the air filter back to the original and was just curious... looks totally different than the J-Body Lower Motor Mount (I know the SS is not a J-Body) but I was wondering if it really is the Lower Motor Mount... I'm assuming it is and was wondering if there was any possibility of one being made with a stiffer rubber?
you should have another 1 like that on the other side
that is the trans mount
were the cav has 3 , 2 in the front (1 upper and 1 lower) , the 2 for the trans(5spd) , or 1 for the auto)
the cav trans mounts are along the frame rail , and the cobalts are moved further towards the center , and spread farther out
my guess is they moved them towards the center and made them wide to replace the lower dog bone they used on the cav

well that pic is the front of my car and it it close to the center a about a foot in from the center of the car on the driver's side. I had a '02 Cav LS Sport (Auto) and I replaced the lower motor mount with a Mark Pain's Motor Mount and when I looked at the factory rubber insert it looked very similar to the insert on the this.. Not saying that it makes it the motor mount but that was the only mount that i could see that hooked up to the frame and to the engine. hmmmm... I dunno
One of the production delays was the motor mount for the 2.0 S/C.
They ended up going with a more expensive fluid mount to dampen vibration.
At least that is what a tier 2 industry mag said.

If the motor mount for the SS was one of the reasons the car was delayed I would have to think the Redline mount would be different , seeing as how the Redline was out long before the SS .
after market mounts are stiffer , and help keep the motor in place better
which translates to less movement required to put power down to the ground
also in a front drive car , the more the slop is taken up the better the car feels going down the road , in corners , they usually shift better , because the cable doesnt have to play catch up with the trans movement

i forgot the draw back to doing aftermarket mounts , more vibration , and road noise transfered inside the car
some like it others dont , but if you want better performance , you have to trade off some where
