LSD G85 Necessary with 250-300hp?
Hello All,
I previously owned an 06 SS/SC with the G85 seats and LSD. I sold it when winter came, and I am thinking about building a Stage 2/3 2007 Cobalt SS with cooling mods and sending the blower out to get ported. Looking at around 275 hp.
The question is: I am looking at a 07 SS withOUT G85, which means no LSD. I dont plan on driving in the snow, but I am wondering if the difference when driving spirited in turns will be noticeable without it, or if off the line acceleration and traction will be hurt by not having it and stage 2/3 mods. Ive did a search here and some people say its not necessary while others say its mandatory.
Given the application, should I just look for another SS with it, or will I hardly notice the difference?

A lot of people say that you wont notice the LSD when you just do normal driving, even spirited. it really comes in handy when you track the car.
However, being that Cobalts are sort of rare find (around here at least) I wouldn't not buy one you find cause it doesnt come with LSD.

even with the stock power, the open diff can be a bit of a let down on corner exits.
if it bugs you that much, replacing the transmission isnt that hard. im just gonna beat the **** out of the one I have and replace it with an LSD trans when it finially gives lol.
If you are a good driver, there won't be much difference if any in the 1/4.
if you are letting the wheels spin a lot, then your 1/4 times would benefit from the LSD most likely.
driving with an open diff on a course can be a challenge, but it teaches you throttle modulation a lot more than the LSD setup would, so that is one advantage of it if you are looking to improve your driving skills.

^ this. I have no lsd and mine is fine straight line and easy corner acceleration. shouldn't be going around hard corners flooring it on the streets, if it's track or autox use that's a different story.
