Question LSJ Building questions

Hi guys and gals i am new to the cobalt area but not new to Building Hp . I have a few questions i have a 2006 ss/sc my goal is 300 whp on a stock m62.. after reading and reading about other peoples posts i see the normal in 2.6 and 60's is 260ish. Now to put 300 whp down would 2.6 78's and cams header dp and a good tune and cooling mods make the cut?? or would i have to go further and PP the head?? Is 300 going to be too much for a FWD and make it pretty much undriveable on the street?? i really dont want to dump a couple grand on a turbo kit.. Now next question i have a open diff car and my first mod is going to be a clutch should i find a LSD trans before i do the swap or is it not that much of a gain. well thanks for the help ...

My mods made 260 on a mild tune and a smaller exhaust. I'm getting a spare head to port and polish. A PP head is the best power gainer for our car for the cahs. It should put me at 300 or higher after the head and retune. You can buy an LSd and take it to a tranny shop for them to install the LSD for you.

well if you think about it, all that work, it would be cheaper in the long run to go turbo dont you think?

dont forget you should run methanol past 2.8 pulley. dont listen to what these people say, there motor will blow eventually.

You can run a 2.7 without meth, but I did for saftey. Cams might get you there not totally sure. I know the way my car sits right now I can make at least 270, because a guy around here had an ION Redline with the same setup pushing 270 after he tuned it so a PP head for me would push me above 300

you can run without meth, but even your not even taking the chance. why? because down the line, a few months, or even a year, it will blow from someone pushing the **** out of it

Stock axles will survive, just get the ottp stage 2 mounts and learn how to launch a car without dumping the clutch, Deff need a clutch. I recommend Exedy Hyper Single

i think its cost effective to see around 260whp, maybe even 270 with the s/c, but beyond that, your absolutely right

Ok I know you need supporting mods the question was can u on a stock m62 with SUPPORTING mods with 2.7 inj and cams make 300.. From what u have posted leads me to no... So the reason I was askin is I don't want to spend a bunch of money on some thing I will take of and replace with a turbo... I want a steady safe 300 whp not meth and running it on the verge of blowing up to make it...

I wouldn't worry about the LSD, are you going to be doing any auto-x or road racing?

I wish i would have never modded the m62 and just saved all that waisted money for a turbo build. it's really the way to go and there are so many options with it for upgrades later on down the road. Safer power. I don't know where you can go wrong really. With the money you will be spending on getting a regrind done on the stock blower cams "which are good till about 400 whp anyways" and porting the head and all the money waisted on meth you could do a nice moderate turbo build that would get you there no problem for the same amount of cash if you did it yourself and have it be much more reliable.

But thats just me talking

if you want best of the best... Build your motor up i.e pistons, speed pro rings, sleeves etc, get some cooling mods, go get a TVS and then twin charge that LSJ beauty! I am up to doing the twin charge and when thats all done I should be sitting at about 475 hp... With the TVS I am sitting at 325 right now.
