LSJ Clutch Replacement Info 2019
LSJ Clutch Replacement Info 2019
I wanted to make this post because I had a difficult time finding the information I needed when replacing the clutch on my LSJ. I tend to be frugal so I was looking for a clutch that could hold up to the power my car makes without spending $600+ on a performance clutch. This is a fun car for me, not a competition car. I can say that the 'budget' combination below will work; it worked on my car.
I used the following parts from LUK that I bought from rockauto:
LFW464 Flywheel (listed for LSJ)
LMC486 Master Cylinder (listed for LSJ)
LUK L04256 Clutch Kit (listed for LNF)
I also bought a new clutch pipe from ZZP
All in for the clutch kit, master cylinder, flywheel, pipe, fluids, etc I spent less than $400
A little background I bought this car recently with a blown clutch. My car hits 15psi and has the stage 3 zzp stuff with a full header, catless, dual pass, etc. I let the clutch break in for about 20 miles before I started beating on it (yes, you're supposed to break in for 500 miles... forget that nonsense
Its been over a month and no issues from the clutch. Holds tight at WOT in all gears
I used the GM Ecotec LSJ Chapter 5 as a guideline for replacing the clutch and I think it was well written and had all the necessary information except for one thing: PRIME THE SLAVE CYLINDER! Prime the slave cylinder with brake fluid before you stick the transmission into the car. That simple 2 minute procedure will save you a lot of bleeding time.
Hope this helps someone in the future
