Any info on what was done to the F23

I just talked to Kevin. Shifter cables, clutch line, front and side trans mounts, axels and he said he had to take the t stat housing off and trim a little off something and weld a flat plate on cause it hit the trans. But he said it was super simple.

I can pick up a used F23 for $400. Might be a direction to take if and when my trans lets go to test seeing how few have tried it.

Final drive is 3.84. But gears 1-4 are all shorter than the F35. Quicker acceleration with better gas mileage haha.

This is a great thread.

Keep the info going. I was thinking about the f 40 but seems that there are just as good more available options out there. Let's hear more about the f 23.

So the 3rd gear will hold under 400 ft lbs you guys think? Better gas caught my attention as well.

So would I if money wasn't an issue. But it's a cheap and probably much better alternative than throwing in another F35.

Anyone ever replace the trans bearings in the F35? Or have them fail completely?

PS - F23 is rated for 170 lb/ft, not 260.

F23 takes abuse well...just need a decent clutch so it doesnt slip.

All the 2.2/2.4 guys i know with somewhat good power have no problems with the F23.

4.45s are plentiful in my area BUT high mileage (but I dont have a LSJ anyway lol)

Another thing is I have fun with my auto...I downshift to hold gear for racing, its really not that bad.

I have pressure up and shift time down so its pretty damn quick on shifts.

I have not driven a built auto trans. Would your shift time really improve if you built up your trans? I thought building up one was mainly for holding power, I didn't think it would increase your shift speed. I have never even looked into building up an automatic since I haven't seen anyone around here consider it. Automatics are quick but you shouldn't be too concerned if you're a decent shifter in my opinion at least. Just get a cheap F23 or F35 and cryo-treat it or upgrade bearings, whatever you want to do money-wise. 6 speeds are going to be through the roof. I know KillaSS bought a cheap used 6 speed that's holding up fine with his 252 or 256 build so far but it hasn't been in long enough to really say if it's reliable or not. He didn't do anything to it either, just had ZZP install it the way it was.
