I have been on e85 since last march. I am thinking fuel now as well. I'm gonna growl underneath the car and mess with the connection for my wideband. Thanks for the help. I will let you guys know what I come up with.

Either rich or lean, could be hella rich where the car is bogged down so bad and goes no where, or hella lean...

return fuel system on 80lb injectors and upgraded the fuel pump.

i hoping its the gas even though i have my doubts it isnt. Normally if i am below a qr tank of gas the car will kinda sputter some if i go WOT. If i stay above a qr it will go fine. but this is deff a way more intense sound. it sounds as if the timing is off now once i get into it. possibly bad gas but i have been running the car just fine on that same tank of gas. I really need to see what my a/f actually is when this happens.

Could that sound be my waste gate? I tried turning the boost down today and the knob just kept spinning and never stopped. So I ease on to the throttle then start to floor it and watch my boost gauge sky rocket and go crazy.

that would be your wastegate not opening. thats a whole 'nother problem. if you're controller is turned as far as it can in the lowering direction and you're still seeing higher boost than spring pressure, STOP going wide open. you will destroy your engine in your question to find the problem. if you now what your spring pressure is. turn the controller all the way down so you're just running of the spring and ease in to the throttle and see if you can boost past spring pressure

but in the words of Click and Clack. "if you don't know whats wrong and can't find the problem, drive it till it breaks. then you'll know what to fix"

i'm kidding, don't do that. take your wastegate off and give it a once over. if you've been on e85 and running fine for some time now and this problem suddenly came about, check the wastegate. the way you described the noises though made it seem like a different problem.

wastegate flutter doesn't sound like gun shots. it sounds like the wastegate is just opening and closing fast. If you are running lean it could definitely be doing that. Also E85 does get dumbed down to E70 in the winter in some places so becareful. VP is supposedly coming out with E85 in sealed containers that is guaranteed to be E85 everytime. That is what I heard from a local shop. Would be very nice if this turns out to be true.

does not sound like flutter, sounds like its just not opening. thats exactly how mine was before it went.

yeah I was agreeing. Take the line that comes off the turbo and put it straight onto the external completely bypassing the boost controller.. It should open at spring pressure then. If it works then time for a new boost controller. If it doesnt open then you need a new EWG. If it opens and still makes the gun shot noises well idk what it is then besides possible fueling issue.

Im LNF but i have this same problem. was on e47 and it started doing what the OP described. Boost just goes past what is commanded, even when im commanded to run spring pressure. So im thinking my wastegate is sticking and causing more boost to happen, and pushing it past my fuel pumps limit, therefore getting the gunshot sound at WOT. sound plausible??

waste gate not opening making you be super lean sounds like the issue. Though it could also be the tune messed up from the e85 to e70 switch in the winter.

Or if you have irrdium or platnium plugs and used the autozone keyring style plug gapper to open up the gaps then you ruined the plugs and need new ones.

Your wideband does not work and you want us to diagnose? Fix or replace that wideband so you can tell what your A/F ratio is like and post back. Sounds like early fuel cut to me also!

I'd check that wideband pretty fast, especially if you're having these issues.
Here's a quick way to see if it's effed.

O2 Sensor Test - How to check to see if your aftermarket O2 sensor is bad - YouTube

Also just stating something somewhat far fetched. Is it the flex-pipe that's broken? Mine sounded like a bag of **** when it was tearing open, and only when I was going WOT. Try rattling the exhaust around, or checking for it on a cold day when you first start your car.

This is what is turning out to be my problem. The reason it's making this sound is because I believe my boost controller is broke and the boost just shoots up at what and the noise happens while the boost gauge goes crazy.

order a new wastegate spring or just check your wastegate and see.... it sounds like your just over boosting and it's not opening. Seriously thats a different sound than when you got here.

Get the same plugs you had when you got here and we will regap them TOmorrow

I need a boost controller and I don't have the money to buy one until we'd. I'm over boosting like you said but because my boost controller isn't doing ****.

disconnect your boost controller then connect the vac line straight to the waste gate and run waste gate pressure. If you tune was done right you should still be ok on fueling.

Problem fixed. Car is running normal again, I'm just leaving it on really low boost until I go see Matt tomorrow with a fresh tank of e85. And I'm gonna bring the other plugs with just incase.
