misfire and ticking/rattling

so ive searched for this for a while, but im starting to run out of time (i have to get my emission tested here soon).
The other day i started up the car, and it sounded a bit louder, like there was a rattling under the hood. I just went on my way cause i didn't throw a code or anything. Halfway down the road i get the cel. When i get home and get it read it says misfire cylinder 2. What I ended up doing was switching the coil packs around to see if the code followed the pack.
Now this is where i get confused. When the car's idling there's a loud rattling noise coming from the left side of the engine (facing it from the front). Anyone have any ideas on what this may be from?????
