Modding at high mileage?
Modding at high mileage?
Hey,
I'm going to get a cobalt ss/sc. I'm looking at one that has 98 thousand miles. Everything looks like it is stock. When a do get an ss I plan to do a 2.8" pulley, intake, catback, 60lb injectors and a heat exchanger. Anyone have any idea how a engine with that many miles would hold up with those mods? Any horror stories of modding with high miles?
Thanks

since it is a SS, the first owner more than likely beat the **** out of it, so depending on the shape of the thing... idk. I tend to not trust cars with over 100K miles. but if you dont beat the **** out of it when you mod it you could be fine. good luck either way!
You will probably want to make sure the SC coupler and oil is changed. Other than that standard maintenance has been done and you change all the fluids out. Should be fine. I would take it to a mechanic to have a once over done, ie. compression is good on each cylinder.
For sure do a compression test. It will take 10 minutes and you will be able to tell how healthy the motor is. My car has 93k on it, 53k of which have been modded with 2.8, 60's, full exhaust, and driven pretty hard. I still get 200psi per cylinder. I wouldn't be worried as long as the motor has good compression.
