Is my car normal???
I have a 2007 ss/sc. My car runs fine, it boosts to around 15 psi, the vacuum is normal, and it drives perfectly fine. When I park my car on a hill (without using the ebrake) it rolls then catches. Then it stops. Then it rolls down about a foot then catches. I will do this in any gear I put it. It almost seems like the compression builds up in the motor then lets go, then it catches and so on. Has anyone ever had this. I have own numerous cars with manual, and this is the only car that has ever done this.
Im not talking 70 degree inclines here. I'm talking an average hill with not much incline. I use my ebrake all the time. I was on the phone and in my car after I stopped it, and I didn't put up the ebrake right away. This started to happen.
Don't boosted cars have less compression then a normal naturally aspirated engine anyways ? If so then perhaps it rolls alittle when in gear compared to your other cars because of the less compression due to being boosted from the factory. Just a thought and my 2 cents !!
P.s - My 1990 Z24 5 speed use to do this as well on certain hills !!

CHRIST....... He doesn't need an eBrake lesson , he's asking if anyone else has a problem with the car not holding . Obviously he knows that if he doesn't use the brake he's screwed. WTF everyone wants to sound like a badass here and can't see threw their own bullshit to answer simple question's anymore...WTF
To the OP my car seems to hold fine , and your question is a valid one , if my car did this i would worry that i had a compression , or clutch issue . 1st gear is pretty low and should hold the car back fairly well. I'll test it out on some steeper inclines.

You shouldn't park the car without using the ebrake, you are destroying your transmission.
What gear are you parking in and how big is this "hill"? The compression ratio on the SS/SC is fairly low, so it could be possible that the car could have enough mass to rotate the motor (which is why you should use the ebrake) but I don't know for sure. I have never parked my car without using the ebrake and I never will so I have nothing to compare to.

To the OP. Im glad you posted this. Got me thinking about when my cavalier did that. Here was my problem. Hell i could put my cavalier in any gear and not even park it on a hill and push the car back and it would do exjactly like you said. SO after awhile i blew that tranny, threw up a junkyard one and BAM, it never did it agian. There was a big topic on this on the j body site. Not sure why it alittle in one car and not at all in a diff car. I mean ifyou park on a hill its going to do it because your flywheel isn't spinning. I dunno but that was a very good post!
Thanks for all the input guys. Like I said before. Everything runs and works fine with my car. I have never had a boosted car before, and it sounds like you guys are on to something because of the low compression motor. Does anyone else notice this on hills?
