my header and custom downpipe

my header and custom downpipe
this is how i spent my saturday.
the old:
TOG header and custom downpipe. previous owner put the header in, here is why i removed it
yea thats about a 1/4" gap under that level. the flange is so warped nothing would seal it. that goes along with the one primary tube being cracked most of the way around were it joins the collector
the new
clear image stainless header. man this thing is nice, was worth the head-ache i went through with fed ex trying to get it.
when they say they makle nice stuff, they arent kidding. the welds are just amazing. its such a nice peice i almost didnt want to put it on the car.
because i built my own exhaust the downpipe flange isnt in the right spot, and its a 3 bolt, so i built my own downpipe. its 3" off the header and 2 1/2" the rest of the way, as my exhaust is 2 1/2".
hooked through a magnaflow 30x6" body resonator 5x8x18" magnaflow muffler, its sounds great. it has a lot more midrange power and really smoothed out the powerband. before it used to start pulling hard around 4500rpm, now it doesnt have that jump, it just pulls right through from around 2000rpm. i guess it flows a hell of a lot better than the TOG pos, as i seem to have lost a pound of boost. i wouldnt be surprised if i see a small increase in fuel economy, but we will see after a week of driving.
if anyone is thinking of buying a header, deffinitly give clear image a call. they are great to deal with, knew exactly what i was trying to do (in regards of the ball cup for the downpipe) and build one of the nicest headers ive seen for a cobalt.

Real Nice stuff, but it still needs a flex section or your going to have problems.
Unless you spring bolt the down pipe to header and let it float.
The only problem with this is it will eventually wear through and break.

this is exactly how clear image shows their downpipes and headers, no springs or flex couplers. with how solid my motor is i dont think itll be an issue. my old cavalier (86 z24) i built my own headers and dual exhaust (it was a v6) and with solid flanges and no flex pipes, never had an issue.
