My new build thread
Let me start off by saying, I'm not building the car to be the fastest, loudest, lowest, etc. I want to build it to execute an idea I've always wanted to do. When I first bought my 06 LT I wanted a SS/SC. However, insurance and the car payment did not work for a 16 year old
Then I joined this site and learned about the Time Attack Cobalt and I loved it. So I thought, "What would the Time Attack Cobalt be like if it was street car you could buy from a dealership?" Now this is an inspired build so it won't be identical to the TA Cobalt. So let's get on with the build list shall we.
Engine/Exhaust:
GM Stage 3
Airbox Mod with K&N Filter
GMPP Honed Manifold (Ported)
ZZP 3" Downpipe
Corsa Touring Catback
GMPP Option B
ZZP Stealth Heat Exchanger/Powell Griffin
Suspension:
Powell Stage 1 Trans Mount
LNF Rear Trans Mount
Interior:
ZZP Dual Gauge Pod
Stock Boost Gauge
Aeroforce Interceptor
Cosmetic:
Polished M62
Coil Cover Polished or Painted Black
Cam Cover Polished or Painted Red (or Black)
Engine Mount Painted Black
Future Mods (Far down the road):
Powell Hardcore Sway Bar
Ported M62
Supertech 75lb Valve Springs
Cylinder Head ported to GMR Specs (Unless I could find a real one)
H62 (I can dream
)
I'm sure I'm forgetting things. But this is the overall look of what I want.

Maybe one day. I wanna see what she can do being mostly gm without any internal work.
I like the way you think. Where does the Powell Stage 1 go? And I work at a gm dealership so I can get the lnf mount cheap. And out of curiousity what did the TA Cobalt run for mounts? I can't find the info.

Yep. I've been thinking about just doing the 76mm pulley. But since I would be buying a dual pass anyways I figured just go ahead and do stage 3.

The lip would get ripped of on the roads around here lol. Always loved the RPF1s, I wanted to put them on my LT. And the struts might be a little much haha.

The T/A car ran Powell rotated trans mounts, but they were a solid design vs. the bushing type sold now. The ones used on the T/A car would create a lot of vibes on a street car.
If you don't want to do cams, at least install some supertech valve springs. If you saw how tiny the stockers are, you would understand, lol.
Stock valves springs are rated at 58 lb, I run 75 lb supertechs.
Also, the S3 tune is much better/refined than the S2 tune, so wise choice picking up a S3 kit. Not to mention the h.o.m. and adjustable rev limiter.

The Powell S1 mount replaces the stock LSJ front transmission mount. For the rear, you simply add the spacer that comes with the Powell S1 mount, and install an LNF mount in place of the LSJ mount.

What is the difference between the LSJ and LNF Rear Mount? Different Bushing? I plan on doing the valve springs eventually so I can move the redline up. And I read a thread that either you or 07Metallic or someone made about the S3 tune being a lot better, which led me toward that kit so my car would be better overall. I don't want to half ass build this car, I want to do it the right way. While I love saving money, you gotta pay to play lol.
Yeah, anything GMR S3 related is prob noted by me.

Either CED for the mount or buy one from a member. Powell has them too if you mention it when you buy the mounts, not sure of price. The LNF mount has a smaller and stiffer bushing.

It's stiffer, and has a better design.
