My stage 2 belt blew up.... help?

Well my S2 belt blew up on my way home 2night. Half the belt is still there but the other half was just laying in my engine bay. I am almost positive that the mechanic slipped the belt off the bottom pulley while putting my 2.9 on because when I started my car to go home today, it squeeked for 15 seconds or so then it shut up. My guess is it was slightly off.

So how driveable is my car? Half the belt is there, but I dont want the rest to give way and have to get it towed. I can go to the dealership first thing tomorrow morning but they are not going to have a stage 2 belt in stock. The only place I have to drive tomorrow is to school and work, school is 12ish miles and work is 1 mile from my house. Will I be safe or should I not chance it?

Also, are there any other belts out there that may be better for my 2.9 pulley? If so, I dont mind dropping some cash for one.

Thanks

belts dont just shred, something must be out of alignment.

I am thinking the belt was half way off one of the bottom pulleys. I have read that it will squeek when the belt is not on correctly and mine was squeeking a bit today. Or did you mean something else?

If there is no belt there is no boost.

Yes you can drive without the belt but I would not recommend it. That belt also turns the alternator. The car would be very under powered and would drive but I wouldn't drive unless you have to without the belt. I looked at my belt the other day and it is split down the middle all the around so I ordered a new one. Maybe these belts are crap and we should look for a better replacement. My belt was maybe 4 months old.

Just an FYI, My stage 2 belt also blew up for a similar reason (won't get into it) but I drove the car about half an hour with no belt on it to get it home to put the new belt on I had. So if your belt completely blows up at least you know you won't be stopping instantly.

change it because when you adjust or change pullies it may be off on the bottom or a different pully on the motor . . happened to me twice

And how could he do that considering the timing chain is a completely different system?

If the belt breaks you wont have an alternator, s/c or a/c
