My valve cover gasket died
My valve cover gasket died
I was driving my drunk friend home last night and decided to do a hard 2nd gear pull on to the bypass. After that I started hearing a weird noise kinda like an exhaust leak, but thought nothing of it because I've had them before. Anyways this morning I went to add some coolant and there was oil all over the engine bay and the dipstick popped off the dipstick tube. After investigation I found oil leaking directly from the valve cover gasket. The only thing I can think would make this happen is that I was seeing 21.8 lbs of boost. Can anyone think of any other reasons? BTW I plan on enlarging the breather to a -12 hose(from the build book). Anyways, moral of the story is this gasket costs $48 and it has to be ordered from Michigan.

If you popped the dipstick and the valve cover gasket, then you have positive pressure building up inside your block, and yes, you should increase your breather. Do you have an oil pressure gauge? Its unlikely, but your regulator might not be working and you could be pushing way too much oil pressure.
