Need a Diagnosis
yesterday i was cruising with a friend and he wanted me to pass this chick he new. so i dropped it into 3rd, switched lanes, shifted to 4th, passed her, switched lanes again and shifted into 5th.....as soon as i went to fifth and gunned it i heard a very loud back fire and saw a lot of black smoke come out my exhaust and my car stalled out. once i pulled over to the shoulder and came to a stop, i was able to start it right back up and it drove fine. any idea of what happened or what could cause that?

Any loss of power after you started it back up and drove? In high gears at low rpm under hard acceleration you could have just dumped a bunch of fuel through (or dumped a bunch in the middle of shifting) and just experienced a nice BIG backfire which i'd think might even cause your car to stall in itself due to the expansion of gas forward towards your engine as well as out the rear making a fireball and causing a slight case of increased backpressure forcing your car to stall out (which is much easier to do when at low rpms).
Its probably not good for you car, kinda like dropping the clutch and stalling, but it may not have hurt anything at all.
Oh yeah, check your plugs make sure they're gapped properly and aren't all fouled cause they might not be sparking fully and could be the cause of the fuel getting past and igniting in your exhaust.

yea my car ended up running fine after i started it back up. i did realized a slight decrease in the fuel gauge
i'm not taking my car to the dealership, as soon as i pull into the lot they'll void the warranty.

When you go catless its bound to happen...probably shot some flames too. Flames are cool, I wish our cars had no lift like the new ones because every time you shift without lifting it fires out a nice pop...at least w/o a cat, not sure if they do it stock lol.

i've been told before that i shot flames out before, if there was flames this time judging by the loud pop and stalling my car....it would of been really big.

yea i got plenty of cooling mods, but his tune is off. i didn't have a wideband gauge so he couldn't get a good tune on there. but when i called back to get up with him about getting re-tune he doesn't answer his phone or return my calls. but it's cool, i'm getting dyno tuned in a couple of weeks.
