NEED HELP from our engine savvy members
I am not as engine knowledgeable as I'd like to be. I need the help of those who are...
I am finally looking at Staging the 'balt. I've read threads on here debating the size of pulleys and air to fuel ratios that state what can and can't be run saftely on our s/c's. I definitely am not one of those tuners who want the max amount of power, even if it means my car is only going to last 6 months. So here are my questions:
1. What stage kit of Cobalt Addiction is a good, safe setup (what is the highest out-putting setup that can be built safetly)?
2. When do headers, downpipe, and exhaust become essential... basically, can they wait till after staging, because I'm foaming at the mouth for that big hp jump.
3. Any other info that my questions do not address, that I need to take into consideration, feel free to add.
Thanks.
Tom

1. honestly I would go with stage two with a 2.8 pulley.... i would look at gmpp also not just CA
2. You want to add exhuast to add more flow to the system... since you have an intake youll want to add an exhuast set up for more flow because without it, your bottle necking your system.. more flow = more power... They can wait till after staging... to your desire basically...
3. youll want to jsut make sure that youll have some way to keep all of this cool.. these cars are known for their heat soak... so do siome cooling mods too.. IMO...
So thats my .02...

^ is right thow more flow more power. do stage 2 with a 2.9 depending on altitude you may be able to run a 2.8 then do header DP full exhaust and i say a heat exchanger to keep iat's down so you can make power on a high speed run cause of NO heatsoak..
it aint nicknames the heaton blower for no reason.
It means that the stage 2 injectors cant do that much work with anything lower than a 2.8... a 2.8 depending on your altitude can either be perfect for the reflash or it can be streching it... usually your best bet is 2.9 but the 2.8 will get you more power and should be fine on the reflash from the dealer... and anything lower than a 2.8 causes the engine to work really hard so that the Intake temps will be really high... not good.. hence why we suggested some supporting mods... especially with anything lower than a 2.8 your gunna wanna run a water meth kit and a H/E...
Ok,
1. I'm in Pennsylvania, how's my altitude.
2. CA sells a kit with a 2.85 with 42# injectors
2a. would it be better to get the GM stage 2 and then buy a 2.9"
2a1. who sells a 2.9"

Dont waste your money on stage 2. Buy stage 1, get it installed by your dealer, then buy the 2.9 pulley + hub for $100 and GM Stg2 Belt for $40. Saves you a lot of money in the end for the same thing because the GMPP Stage 1 comes with the stage 2 reflash and injectors. You save money by buying your own hub/pulley/belt.

Do stage 2, get the stage 3 pulley.
Get the GMPP exhaust
Then do a dual pass setup, that's my next mod.
