Need help! Something went wrong!

Was showing a friend the cobalt today, hit it pretty hard, ok it was WOT! SHifted into 5th gear going between 120-130 when i shifted. Here is where it gets nasty, not sure if i missed the gear and took the car into the rev limiter and thats what happened or if it was something else but, when i shifted my car would not respond to me pressing the throttle, then on my display came up with this message "eng pwr reduced" and so i stopped. well at idle my car felt like it was having a hard time staying on, the rpm's were sparatic going up and down, the exhaust was choppy, very choppy and the throttle was completly non-responsive, so i turned it off for like 5 minutes started it back up and it was still the same with the addition of the "check engine" light being on, so i turned it back off and sat there for about 10 minutes, started the car and it was fine, but the engine light is still on. someone please tell me they know what happened!!!! PLease and thank you!!!

that's a way of your car telling you "WTF are you doing, kid?" you have no business going that fast.

ecotec ftw. Your car did exactly what it was built to do when driven unsafely. The ecu reduces power then something is wrong to stop the motor from going kaboom. go get the code checked at the dealer or a autozone, and learn how to drive. I would have felt like an idiot in front of my friends.

Mine did this whenever i went above 3k rpms because the bcv was allowing me to boost at well over what the stock gauge can show, that resulted in a blown engine due to the dealer refusing to fix it.

gsxtasy, go to hell. i bet i can drive a whole hell of a lot better than you can trust me. there is no one in my town that is close to as good as i am. But yea was going to get codes read, it was 1 in the morning that is happened so could exactly go get it looked at. Plus i have driven that fast before with no problem, i have hit the governor and nothing like that happened. Like i said could have not hit the gear right and put it to far into the limiter, but will have it checked tomorrow and will be back with the code!! Thanks! and go to hell again gsx!

Wow dude. Calm down.

What I got from his post was this:

"Car stops to stop it from blowing up."

Seriously, you have a problem with that?

dude are you serious? you post asking for help, he responds with a legitimate and honest answer, and you tell him to go to hell? dude how old are you? you fucked up. ok, big deal. we all do it. admit defeat and move on. don't get all butthurted because someone is just speaking the truth.

and there is no one in your town that is as close to as good as you are? HAHA OK...that's why your car told you to stop what you're doing. HAHAHA

Thats, Is, Happened. all right next to each other in the same sentence, first grade or second? And "search" shows you how to check the code other ways, i would tell you how, or give you a link, but you decided to respond like a moron. way to go.

any way yes u shouldn't be going that fast but past that .to give an actual answer... u musta shifted funny ..stepped one the gas and it went past the limiter, sending ur car into wtf mode (limp mode)...code will stay in ur car as precaution to get checked out but everything should be fine..u should worry if ur driving speed limit and all of a sudden it goes into limp mode

i have had the same problem, i have come to find out that it only happened when i push the car a little to hard. i have never had the check engine light stay on after so i would take to a shop or a dealer to get that checked out. DONT take it to autozone and yes i know its free but a wast of time, they will read the codes than only to tell you to take it to a shop or dealer, so why do it right the first time and just take it to a shop to begin with. only cuz some problem maybe diff but share the same code.

Consider this your warning and don't call members, including myself, "******". You need to grow up yourself.
