NEED some suggestion for spring

hey, I've got a 2007 Chevy Cobalt SS/SC with a stage 2 gm performance pulley and injector kit on it. i'm looking to do some minor work to it to push around (preferably Above) 400whp. I dont really wanna get into building an outrageous motor cause it is my daily driver. but I'm not sure what all my options would be. Shoot me some ideas specs. an even tell me what you've got if necessary. Thanks,

if your gonna hit 400whp your gonna have to switch to a turbo set up...at least for now till other stuff comes out to help the superchargers...but get more hp you might as well pulley it down more, bigger injectors, e85 or meth kit, and some cooling mods...

i'm not really lookin to get rid of my supercharger. i love bein supercharged. i was at the flashlight drags in waynesburg pa an (drag races on an airport strip runway) and a guy with a silver SS/TC was there. he had header an exhaust, zzp charge pipe an a few other things. we raced, i got him off the line an he only beat me a half car. SS/TC comes stock SAE 265. with my stage 2 kit. GM says 248. i'm guessing he had somewhere around 280 290ish an i didnt figure i did too bad. plus now still mainly stock with the stage 2 kit. i crank on boosted honda hatches in town that have dyno'd 310 an 330 by 2 lengths an more. it's doin a good job. but its gettin to the point where its starting to feel slowish lol. i want some quick moderate changes without losing the supercharger

Cobalt & Ion ---> ZZ Performance

select the model drop down and choose 2.4 stroker. wish i had the money cuz this thing looks stout to say the least. but your price range prolly wont cut it for all that youll need

now that zzp stroker 2.4 LSJ is pretty nasty. i like the specs an info it had about it. now with all the top options. an stuff. (2.4L Stroker LSJ $300, LSJ Long Block $700, and Long Block with Valvespring swap $800.) to a total of $1800 then that price gets added onto the $3499.99. and shipping $200.
all in all it will be around 5499.99 right?

yeah. but then you'll def want to look into a clutch, mounts, etc to handle the power. it adds up fast but they say you have to pay to play

SO,
LE5 bottom end $500
ported head $1000
custom cams (and associated head parts) $1000
cam gears $150
80# injectors $185
Header $500
3" exhaust $500
Dyno Tune $1000
tiny pulley $150
Ported blower free-$500

Around 5k should get you at least near 400, but you'll also need a new clutch and maybe axles (I have no idea how delta axles are).

that sounds like a pretty good set up with the 2.4L LSJ Stroker motor. plus if i ever wanted to i'd still have room to play. i gotta find out more about that motor tho. like people who have it, how it runs, problems if any, an a buncha other stuff

there probly are not many people who have it or any right now but the company has a 10 second cobalt so that just shows you the quality of their work.

That includes disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly, as well as shipping.

That setup JUST came out so the only one who is running it is a guy named Tim that I am aware of. There are other ways of building the motor also, Ray over at bates engineering does some amazing work too and has been doing it for a long time.

If you lower your power goals a little bit, you can do a lot with this motor a hell of a lot cheaper.

kxrida2000 - It also does NOT include the head, that is just the work lol

Leafy - Ya, but it's just for the work lol, no head. Good shops that do it by hand generally won't charge over 500-750 from what I have seen.

what other way is there to get as close as possible to that without filling my stock motor full of parts. i think it would be easier to just pay that much an know its put together right by the people whp designed an run this motor. all i have to to is drop it in. or have a pro shop drop it in. plus my buddys dad actually builds chevy circle track cars. an they have all ran really well. i helped him bulid his sons honda civic b16 an it runs extremely well for a naturally aspirated car

Turbo will get you there without the need to even open up the engine for a ported head. hahn made like 600 hp on the stock head in their l61 and the lsj have a more aggressive cam and bigger ports already.

Most hahn stage 5 cars will NOT be able to hit 600whp on the stock block due to a lot of factors, nor is it a good idea.

Anyway, yes a turbo kit can net you 400whp on a stock block, however it would be much easier with a ported head. Our heads are very very restrictive so a ported head is always going to be a good idea for any high hp application with the lsj motor.

Next up is the Harrop TVS 1320. This is a larger supercharger that loves higher octane fuels and can pump out some incredible numbers, especially again, with a ported head.

Those are your 4 choices really. If you go with the turbo you can hit pretty big numbers and meet your goal, if you got the tvs you can hit 400whp with a ported head and e85.

With the stroker kit and the m62 you might not make your goal, however you will have a very very reliable motor. I believe it says in the stroker instructions to expect roughly 40whp over what you have. If you are a stage 2 that is putting down roughly 240ish hp now, you will be at 280. You can easily put that to 300whp with injectors, a slightly smaller pulley, a tune and some cooling modifications. E85 is also remarkable for these cars, so if you can, run it.

Like I said in your other thread, you will also need to purchase other "supporting modifications" that will increase your price.

With that being said, those are really your only choices, turbo, tvs, stroker. Ah I guess there is the twincharge setup too, but it's harder to tune for, not as reliable in my opinion and still probably wont net you the 400whp goal you are wanting.

ZZP has some good kits, they offer a turbo kit alone that will help you hit 400whp, hahn also offers a stage 5 kit that will get you pretty close. I recommend a different turbo though, the s20g that they use is pretty limited and you won't get the power out of it you are wanting.

Just as a heads up, 400whp in these cars is VARY RARE. Go look at the dyno section, most people don't hit 300whp on the m62, most people can't hit above 350 with the tvs, and most turbo cars are right around that area too.

You are going to need a very good tuner and some decent fuel for your goals. Hopefully you are willing to run e85.
