New cold air/different smell?
So I got my zzp 3" CAI with K&N on and I noticed something, the smell of the exhaust is different. It smells more rich now but almost like burning plastic. I don't know if this is because it is new and freshly put on the car or maybe because I need to go to the step 1 colder plugs that came with the stage 3, note that I do NOT have the stage 3 kit installed yet. The smoke is not darker or more present it just smells a bit more foul. Any input?

The smell of the exhaust as in you know it's coming from the tail pipe or that it just smells like it in general?
Car runs fine? No CEL? If it just generally smells like it, I'm thinking it might be the powdercoating heating up and getting residue off from heat in the engine bay.

the smell is from the exhaust. and no CEL, which I was very please about. I do not smell anything different when the car is off. just after it is started and after it has warmed up it is not as bad either.

How long have you had it on the car? Like canadian said it could just be the smell buring out of the powdercoat. I know after I did my valve cover it took a few days to go away but then again an intake doesn't get all that hot...

I have had the car for maybe 7 months. It just started doing it right after I put the Cold air on. I'm beginning to think that it is the rubber elbow that attaches to the throttle body or the filter itself because it was a little oily, which I know is normal but it is just breaking in?

if it is a cold start the car will drop the afr down to 10 and slowly bring it back up. This will cause the exhaust to smell more like gas.
you may notice it now because you just did something to your car and your awareness has increased.
also it is possible that the MAF is seeing more air and the computer is trying to compensate so it dumps more fuel. this is no big deal - get it tuned
