It doesn't add horsepower technically, just frees it up. If you car is using power to pull a 8lb pulley, more power will be free'd up if its using less power to pull a 3lb pulley. Can someone find out if this will fit ALL cobalts?? I'm def interested!

Thus far I'm having a heck of a time finding an alternator pulley to get dimensions from. Is anyone out there willing to pull theirs off and send it to me? I'll happily send it back either the same or the next day and give you a free aluminum alternator pulley.

My cobalt is sitting at the stealership with a toasted clutch. How do you get the alternator pulley off and how soon can you get it back? New clutch goes in next Mon.

I'm not certain, but you should be able to break the nut/bolt (whatever holds it on) loose then remove the belt, then remove the nut/bolt and pull off the pulley. If it doesn't want to break loose I've found that using an impact gun works pretty well although you may need to remove the alternator to get an impact gun depending on space.

I've got my SS/SC alternator off and sitting in my room. It looks like there's a special tool you need to take the pulley off. Does anyone have any info on this?

Sorry for the bad pic quality. There is a little nut down inside and what looks like a wrench on the top. If you try to unscrew the nut in the bottom the whole middle just spins and the pulley stays still. It looks like there should be something that fits into the big wrench-like opening and onto the nut both at one time. Then you would be able to hold the middle still and just turn the nut. Sorry if that doesn't make much sense...it's hard to explain.

Hope this is better. The nut that is in the center there is a 10mm. I need something that fits into that big opening so I can stop everything except that nut in the middle from turning.

OK so when you try and turn the gold 10mm nut in the middle the whole pulley spins? If so do you have a strap wrench, bench vice or some thing to hold the pulley?

The pulley it's self doesn't spin when you try to spin the 10mm nut. The center (silver part) spins with it. I think it's the clutch assembly that's spinning.

Oh ok for that you just need to stop it with a screw driver. Take a screw driver and wedge it in there so it does not spin... you wont hurt it just break the nut loose and youll be able to hold it with your hand.

I bent 2 screw drivers so far trying. I don't get enough leverage doing that either. Any other ideas? The nut is on there fairly tight.

If anyone happens to have a spare alternator lying around I can give it a shot. With a machine shop full of tools I've got quite a bit of confidence that I can devise a way to remove it. If for some reason I destroy the alternator I would be happy to replace it for you.

Nate, How long would you need it? Less than a day? I am local to you, so i could probably get it to you, but my car is daily driven so as long as I can get the pulley back same day, then I could get it to you
