newb pulley question

I got a stock cobalt, with a CAI. I would like to put a modular pulley system on th S/C, but i do not want to over boost it. I do not have the funds for a stage 2 at the moment so i am going with the pulley system. Now what size pulley are you guys running on a stock tune?

i am thinking about getting the pulley system from modern performance, with a 3.00 pulley.
That will give me a gain of 3-3.5 over stock is that safe? and if it is can i go with a smaller pulley.

thanks guys

dont see why you can just replace the stock size pully for the same size with a different system i dont think it would hurt any

Well here is the thing the pully and injectors that are stock on the car are pretty much maxed as far as the stock injector and stock pully goes yeah you probably herd that people get a smaller pully without a tune but here is the deal on the GM stage 2 kits the tunes are really rich more fuel then air so like me i bought a 2.9 pully and gunna switch out my GM stage 2 one which is a 3.09 inch pully and since my tune is gm stage 2s tune its rich i can run my 2.9 with out leaning my car way out but on the other hand i am gunna get a custom tune for my car even though i really dont have to hope this explains it for you

Well, people will tell you otherwise, but I ran a 3" pulley on stock tune for a few months with no problems. Then, just get stage 1 and a stage 2 belt and you have stage 2. I can't say that it looks great on paper as far as IDC, but your A/F will be ok and the car will run fine, at least mine was like that. If you plan on getting the stage kit though, I'd say hold off until you are ready to do it soon, and do them both within a short time. You see much more of a gain by having the tuning and fuel and more RPMS to really use the power.

Or, just buy Stage 1 and put a 2.8 on it, and skip all the stock size and 3" pulley steps.

What kinda gains are you looking for? If your going to do Stage 2 eventually just wait it out until you have the money. If you start modding half-assed you will **** your car up.

Really, with the stock tune it won't make much difference at all what size pulley you run. The stock tune will limit you to 12~12.5lbs of boost. You'll get there a little faster, but it won't really make much difference.

The injectors are included in the Stage I kit, and the tunes are identical.

The Stage II kit adds the shorter belt and pulley hub and pulley.
