K, well seeing as my other name (RamAirZ) wasn't receiving the activation email I used a different email address lol. K, I am considering purchasing an 05/06 Cobalt SS/SC. Probably going to be between 3 colors blue, red, orange being my favorite. How strong are these factory engine? Don't know much about them yet, but quick learner. Have plenty of experience modifying and tuning cars to go fast (last Iroc went 11.97@119 in the 1/4 n/a, had a 300hp NX kit on it as well). If I were to add the 2.6 pulley, 60lb injectors, meth kit (is this even needed on these at 20psi, need to look up the factory compression ratio), header, exhaust w/o cat and tune it via HPTuners, how quick do you think this car would be. I'm currently looking at Subaru WRX's and the like (this will be my DD, I am building a 69' GTO and 67' Mustang for the wife, want something fun to drive lol). My supervisor at work is a Suby freak and I know what it takes to get 12's in one of those, I'm looking for somewhere in the 12's out of the Cobalt. It'd be on sticky drag radials, LSD, competent driver. I'm thinking this should easily dip into 12's, am I wrong? Or could I even do it with less? Just trying to get a feel for these cars and see how everyone likes theirs. Seems to have a pretty good following and a good group of guys on here. Look forward to BSin with you guys some more on this. Probably be buying one in January, might start stocking up on parts now
with a 2.6 and radials you should be in the high 12s including basic mods. You wont take off as crazy as a sub but your mods will be much cheaper and you wont have to do any engine work unless your really planning on pushing it.

I'd probably do all the mount upgrades I've been seeing to. The billet front and rear tranny and the motor mount. Help the power transfer a bit. I'd like to stay GM but they offer nothing in the car market anymore for decent DD and still quick/cool except for the balt'. The Sky is neat, bot not practical.
One of the mechanics at the garage near my house said GM made the cobalt's ss-sc's engine internals capable to reach close to 400hp. If you plan to go over that, then you need to start modding. But, maybe the guy doesn`t know much lol... But if its true, wow 400hp...
Thanks guys! If it can get up to 400 I might try it if that's true haha. My friends call me crazy because i talked about wanting to get a DD and get good gas mileage, but then start talking about wanting it to run 12's lol. My 69' came with a OHC Straight 6, no one seems to build them, but the funny thing is they are SUPER strong from the factory. Nodular crank, forged rods, skirted block, provisions for cross-bolted mains, etc etc. I'm slapping a set of low compression pistons in it, head/main studs, custom grind cam, some mild head porting, 15psi from a T61 and we're looking somewhere around 500 out of a 250ci Straight 6
I think the biggest reason I want something quick for a DD is I'm impatient to drive the 69'. I want something now haha

I have personally heard that the 2.0 internals can withstand 300 FWHP (so about 330 crank) before you really are risking anything. Thats cool and all, but nobody on these forums has really hit 300 FWHP without using nitrous, so we don't really know how it holds up.
I do know, that a cobalt SS/SC with 300 wheel horsepower will be ungodly fast!! I mean, we have guys with stage 2 and about 240hp hitting mid 13's.
