No Catalytic Converter ?

For everyone without a cat? what are you doing for the CEL. I had just been dealing with it until yesterday. I found directions on how to make an O2 Sim online so I thought I'd try it. I cleared my code which was oxegen insufficient engine bank 2 or something.

Made the o2 sim using 2 non fouling spark plug adapters. take one and screw it into the downpipe, then take the other and drill it out to 1/2 and put it on the sensor. then put them together. it just makes the sensor sit out farther and not get as much of a reading.

I have the HELP part number if anyone else wants to try it, but i don't think it is working.

so anyway. afer a few miles like 30-40 I get a CEL. check it and it is the lean code. I clear it again to see if it comes back on, but it hasn't yet in almost 100 miles.

But last night on my way home my friend and I were doing a little messin around, after my 3-4 shift at about 5 thousand i let off, and he said I shot a "HUGE" flame. What can this be from. isn't that rich, not lean.

Should I just take the Sim off and deal with the code until I get the Vibrant exhaust?

Sorry about the long read. hope you can help.

not sure why you're trying some crazy **** like that. you can buy a cheap o2 mil for $10 and splice it in the wires.

no offense but that method sounds dumb as hell

it works on other cars, I just figured I would try it. it was like 1.89 and until they make one that doesn't need to be spliced in I will just deal with the cel.

02 sim does NOT work on our cars, or ANY 04 or newer GM for that matter!
The PCM does some intrusive testing and none of the 02 sims can make it happy.

I use the aeroforce gauge and clear the codes with it evry 3 days.

so just deal with it. but why is it telling me lean and blowing flames? is it trying to fix the lean code, it is stock so it runs rich like everyone else normally.

not true

you're refering to vehicles equipped with CAN and not all gm vehicles are, the cobalt ss/sc is not listed as can compliant either.

The flames are no big deal man. Its afterfiring. When people downshift, and they are hearing the "Poping" noise, its the same thing. The only difference is you have no cat, so the flame is going out the tailpipe instead of being stoped by the convertor.

CAN, basically is kinda of controller. If you were going to use a tech2 to check codes at a dealership like mine, you use the CANdi module which stands for controller area network- digitial interface. So its like an advanced form of engine control and management. In other words, you just use the controller to decipher the high speed at which data is travelling along the data bus. Nothing really complicated about it...

A little FYI, you don't need a CANDi module to communicate w/ the PCM

I think I'm gonna get a high flow cat with 02 sensor bung and get a AEM air/fuel gauge. I think that might be alright.

Umm no offense but either you where not responding to my question at all or you speaking to technical for me.

My question was simply if I remove my cat and put a test pipe will I get a cel and will this cause problems? If so can I simply buy a high flow cat to get around this problem?

Ok so if I leave my cat alone and just replace the muffler and the last 1/3 exhaust with 2.5' pipping at my local exhaust shop... I should get a nice hp gain and have my exhaust system not sounding like that crappy corsa exhast....

I also plan on getting the GMPP manifold if that helps at all.
