Now a victim of Injen CAI woes
After almost 5 months of having the Injen CAI installed, I have become a victim of fitment issues. I thought this whole time that I have avoided all issues with this. I have the, I'm assuming, 2nd revision from Injen (right before they came out with the "dimple" one). Mine has a quality check stamp of Feb 28, 2006 on the box. I was cleaning it this afternoon and noticed the damage.
I have completely removed it, took pictures, and emailed Injen directly about this. I am back to my stock airbox for now. I even took precautions and put electrical tape on ALL edges that I thought might rub. The fitment was very tight and I kinda had an idea in my head that this would eventually happen, just not 5 months after install.
I guess I will have to wait for word from Injen on this. I emailed tech@injen.com if anyone is wondering.

did you use the rubber vibra mount or did you just install it without the vibramount?
when I installed mine I nearly got to the point of not installing the mount but when I was done I was surprised with the amount of clearance I actually had. there is plenty of room in my setup

Mine's doing the same. I rigged a plastic edge protector on there (stole it from inside my Lian Li computer case, covers sharp metal edges) but it won't stay put no matter what I try. I'll have to do something pretty soon, it's getting pretty deep where it keeps rubbing (bought mine in Feb., also)
Edit: Don't mean to hi-jack, but has anyone who got a CEL with their K&N been permanantly cured by stage 2? I know there have been at least several members claiming this right after their stage 2 install, just wondering if the CEL stayed off. I've just about given up on Injen and since I jacked up my stock air box removing it, I was considering the K&N route.

The exact same thing happened to mine, almost chaffed right through. Also I too have been waiting for a month so far and my credit card hasn't been billed and the tube still hasn't been sent. I called them after they wouldn't answer my emails and they said it would be sent when they have them in stock. He told me there where parts on backorder needed to make the tubes with.

Same thing happended to mine . Im back on the stock box with a K&N until I can get down to have my LT1 maf calibrated to my pcm . I decided to say screw our dumb sensitive MAF and all the aftermarket intakes and make my own 3.5 intake with a LT1 MAF . Problem OVER for good
Good luck with injen dude . I didnt even bother calling them , I jus sold my intake cheap , and made the guy fully aware it had some fittment issues and had that grove worn in .

wow thats crazy you guys had issues. Also it should be noted that not everyon gets cel's when using a full blown cai.
Notice the rubber hose ending I used to protect the cai tube from being destroyed from the stupid screw.
Notice now the large amount of space I have. When viewed in person there is about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch of space. I had to tinker with the intake to get it that way but the result is just that, more space.
And my new GM performance exhaust with angle tip.

I have had no CEL's with mine and it's been on since March. I also put some 3/8" gas line around the edges of the opening wear the tube goes through the fender well to keep it from chafing on my intake tube. So far so good.

Noticed this the moment it went in, i readjusted the intake probly 2 or 3 times which keeps it away from the screw that is there, but the fitment is just so damn tight, so I placed dynamat all the way are the whole as well on the edge near the engine bay to prevent this scrapping. When I go to clean the filter i will be placing a plastic sleeve over the intake where it is near the edge in the engine bay to further help the matter.

It takes awhile to get the relacement tube from Injen. It took me a month and a half.
One thing to note, if you rotate the rubber connector (the one that connects it to the throttle body) the rubbing will be eliminated. I had the first gen inen and I had the same rubbing issue so I cut rubber tubing in half and used that to protect the intake. After installing the new intake tube, I noticed it rubbed and I turned the rubber connector and it made a world of difference. There is a nice 1/4"-1/2" gap now with no rubbing.

I have a similar problem with my Injen intake. Mine is hitting the hood shocks and making all kinds of squeaking noises.
Interestingly enough I talked with Allen at Intense, and he said I should put my stock air intake back on. He says that with all of their testing, the stock intake makes the most power and has the most stable A/R's. I thought that was kind of funny, but he said that the reason why is because GM's MAF sensor placement is like "perfect". Even if you look look at cobalt-addiction's intake, it uses part of the stock intake, where the MAF mounts.
Later,
Vincent.

I had rubber hose around the parts where the intak touches the metal. I have one small scratch but nothing like my old pipe. The first one they gave me before the nex design looked like it was sawed into in 2 different spots.
