Odd RPM pattern
I tried a search and couldn't find anything. Is it normal for the SS/SC to come down in RPMs really slow when revving in neutral? If I just sit there and rev to high RPM's and then get off the throttle completely it seems to take longer than it should to drop in RPM. Also it get's down to around 1800, then goes back up to 2200 on it's own before settling into the normal 800 idle...any info on this would be useful, thanks in advance
Well for one thing we don't have high compression engines and if there is no boost present the engine doesn't create alot of pressure to "engine brake" once the throttle is closed.
Also, it may just be the computer adjusting the idle to it's liking when it dips down and then comes back up. Don't worry about it; none of that has any ill effect.

2 things.
1. There is a service bullitan for an erratic idle on the 05-06 cars. Just needs to be taken to a dealer and have the ecu reprogrammed. That is if the car falls within their limits.
2. Also, because we have no iac valve in our cars, everytime we drop the throttle, the pcm has to keep the car running by opining and closing the throttle body.
