Oil breather?

What are those little air filters that go on valve covers? Anyone know what their point is? I just see them once and awhile and didn't know.

relieve crankcase pressure, but **** that ****, get a catch can to run inline, u want it to be in vacuum from blower, (stock i believe, icr atm) BUT!, idk if anybody has done it yet, and it is my plan when money spending money comes back my way, but i will be running a t-fitting inline to the catch can to run a vacuum/boost gauge so i can monitor my crankcase pressure, i know they have sensor/gauge kit u can tap **** n run a pcv gauge but a mechanical gauge would be just as good/true and easy to diagnose if it fails lol and i wont have to drill/tap anything, simple vacuum line and gauge with a power/ground for lighting, done

catch cans are not vented at all, like i said u want ur pcv in vaccum throught out the whole powerband, people begin droppin pulleys and blow dipsticks out with a good amounst of oil from excessive crankcase pressure, one guy on here i jus left a lil bit on his thread said he has to rebuilt the bottom end atm, lost compression in cyl 4, idk were hes at with the build yet but yea, remember this when modding, lsj pcv system is **** beyond stock,

well the pcv system shuts off under boost there is a pcv check valve in the intake manifold once it shuts off then the vent on the back of the valve cover takes over for venting the crank case when not in boost the pcv and the vent work togather

op if you run a breather it will cause a lean condition as it will pull un metered air into the intake system ur best option is to leave it alone

not being a smart ass, im acutally curious to know for future build plans, but why is everybody modding their pcv setups then to stop diptick popping out when they drop pullies and/or go turbo?, and when they do mod how is the proper way to vent the poor pcv system

there are a few reasons why you would pop a stick one is excessive crank pressure which can come from blowby on the ring set cracked ringland cracked piston or a faulty manifold gasket or a faulty pcv check valve or crank windage can pop a stick or excessive engine vibration can

now when you mod the pcv system it isent for the sake of the dipstick its to allow the engine to breath
its like having fluid on your lungs

now before you mod the pcv system you need to decide which way to go closed system or a vented system

if you decide to go open then you cant to any vacuum source this system lets the engine vent its self at its own pace a closed system has vacuum on it all the time wether its engine vacuum or through a vacuum pump or a vac set up thru the exhaust system

now the pcv port in the head i feel it needs plugged because how much pressure can that check valve handle before it starts to fail

line size from the valve cover -10 min -14 max -14 is more of a drag setup and not needed on a street car
