Oil Change Confusion

I just changed my oil for the second time and put in 6.5 quarts, started the engine, checked the oil level and it barely got the bottom mark on the dipstick, so i added the rest 7Q total and the dipstick is at 3/4. Now i was under the impression the car was supposed to take 6.5 quarts, why would mine still not be full after 7Q.

To be honest with you I'm not completey sure, but my car has always taken the full 7 and read full on the dipstick. Just take the extra space you have and put some Lucas Oil Stabilizer in there!

Was the engine properly warmed up? ALso did you wait a few minutes after you shut your engine off to check the oil? The oil needs time to drop back into the pan, to measure it properly.

yep ive mistakenly done this too....(checked oil to soon after shutting down)

I freaked and thought i was low.....

thank god i checked it a few minutes later before i was gonna put more in.

definately make sure your engine has had time to settle after shutting it off before you check your oil.

Mine usually takes 7, but sometimes not. The SS/SC is kind of inconsistent when it comes to how much oil it takes. Mine is like that and just about everone that has an SS/SC that I know of is the same way.

^^ umm its 6.5 its what the engine can handle. Sure a little more is ok, but not its one of those situations where a little less is better then a little more
