Oil dilema
I normally use mobil 1 for my oil changes, but I have some royal purple lying around. I was told that I should continue to use mobil 1 because even after draining it, it doesn't mix well with other oils, and I really have no clue. I want to use to the royal purple.

When it comes to different types of synthetics, they all have to meet specific requirements. They should all be fine. For them to say "this one doesn't mix well with oil A or B" is a bunch of crap and most likely said to sell more oil.
A good name brand synthetic is good. I've had douches tell me castrol is better than mobil 1, however, mobil 1 comes in the SS/TC and also GM vehicles like my dads TBSS.

I just started using royal purple, and its pretty good ****. I wouldnt worry about mixing the oils, youre really not mixing all that much anyway. I find the best way to get all the oil out of your crankcase is to get the oil to operating temp.

Ok lets hear some toughts on amsoil. They say it's good for 25000 miles. That the hell is that. All oil gets dirty and so does the filter. I would never go that long without not changing it.

If you're using synthetic oil, go by your oil life monitor. If you don't, you're more or less wasting your money. I remember when I was using the 3000 mile rule, the oil that would come out still looked pretty new. The reason for that is the oil life system was saying 62% or more.
Now I let the monitor go down to like 30% before I change it. If you're not running synthetic, I would stay with the 3000 mile rule.
That being said, it's your money so do what you want with it.

I will say that Valvoline synthetic made my motor sound like marbles in a can at start up...lol

i'm waiting to see how it goes. just put it in last week and i haven't put any miles on it. i feel off the cuff it's better then the RP i used last oil change. and amsoil has a filter for extended miles but not in the cobalt app. i'm just gonna swap filters if this **** actually makes it too 3k.

You shouldn't mix oil brands unless youa re sure they use the same basestock. Different basestocks do not always mix well and should only be done in an emergency. You can change your oil brands when doing an oil change and should be ok. Engine motors hold enough oil that you will flush out the old oil and mix with it enough that you won't see a problem. If you want to be 100% safe, just short change the oil (like at 1500 or 2000 miles) after changing brands, but again it probably isn't going to be necessary.
The oil actually drains best and fastest when it is COLD. The 5W30 rating means that the oil has a viscosity rating of a SAE 5 oil at COLD tempuratures and a SAE 30 rating at operating tempurature. With that said, the oil is thinner and flows better at COLD tempuratures.
I last changed my Mobil 1 extended performance oil at after about 7000 miles and I always change it about this amount (which is when the oil life monitor gets to about 10% ~ 15%. The lab results showed TBN was still at 6.5, engine has 55K miles but the oil shows no engine wear at all. I could easily go another 3000 to 4000 miles before changing the oil.
If you really want to know how your oil is performing, you need to send oil samples off to be analyzed. I send samples every oil change. It costs like $20 for analysis and an extra $10 for TBN analysis.
