Oil leaking from engine, need help to figure out where it's coming from

So last Saturday my coolant boiled over, DIC said it reached 203C... forgot to check my interceptor to see if that was really the temp. Thread for that here: https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/general-cobalt-68/coolant-overheated-tonight-139879/

Anyways, now I have what appears to look/feel like oil leaking from my engine from this spot here:

Car is going in tomorrow to see if they can find anything wrong with the coolant system, but I just noticed the oil tonight. I'm not too informed on motors and the different names for parts, but would that be the headgasket leaking? Or is that further down on the engine?

Luckily my car's still got a warranty, cuz it looks like they've got more than the coolant system to fix now

*Edit* Thats not my engine btw, just a pic I stole. And I'm guessing that's not the head, since I can see the studs further down.

dude.. come on now.. of course hes just using that image of the engine to point out where the oil was leaking..

i dont think he can pull it out, then re-assemble it over night man.

no offense, but its just common sense bro

sure you can, it would just take alot of work, ive helped a budy take apart an etire subfram, suspension, axels, tranny removed, sc removed and all put back together on an sc in 2 days...so he could too.

im just checking after the warranty comment....
you take your engine out say by by to warranty

Isn't that the oil seepage issue? Common on lsjs, heard it was a "mis cast" head. It should be warrantied and replaced but who knows.

203C temps? That's insane. I'm going to have to refer to my original answer...this is a mis-reading or a bunk sensor I'm guessing. Coolant rarely is going to get over 250F MAX with any lsj setup even if there's a rad blockage/broken pump unless you're running it 10 hours a day whomping on it.

PS factory hose is rated to maybe 300 degrees max (heater/rad hose you buy from a store can take 220-240 so this is more likely). Past that the hose is rubber is going to melt (I would think). If your rad hose isn't melted then you just don't have that high a temp.

Oh it's being warrantied for sure... I don't beat into the car all that much, and it's only got barely 20k on it.

The part you circled is the valve cover gasket, no big deal there. Check your oil dipstick to see if the oil looks milky or is higher then normal. If it is, you blew a head gasket too, otherwise its just a valve cover gasket.

I checked the oil cap and dipstick about an hour ago, just looks black and smells like normal. So this is an easy fix then.. whew. I was worried they were going to keep my car for a few days

Update -

So they pressure tested the coolant system, no probs there.

They took the valve cover apart and said they couldn't find any visible sources of the leak, just what was running from that seam was from the engine "sweating"... >.< I wanted them to do a compression test and see if they could find anything else, but they said they didn't have anytime to do it today, and I'd need another appt.

At least I have 5 years and just under 100k worth of warranty left =\

How many Km on the motor? after awhile it is normal for it to sweat like that you could replace the valve cover gaskets and reseal it might fix your problem
