When they are stock and with the drivetrain loss, they aren't that quick surprisingly...
And he's stage 2 so, if he can drive then I see the WRX pulling off the line but that's about it....

If you run an entire 1/4 it could be close, a stock WRX can run a 14.2 to 14.1 stock with a really great driver, and a S2 cobalt can do that as well, but you have to be able to drive it. The WRX will be trapping only mid 94-96 though, so from a roll you should kill it, but from a dig anything shorter then the 1/4 and you would probably lose. For sure you would lose the 1/8 (assuming the WRX can drive).

If your balt was stock you could take the rex from a roll let alone stage 2, stock WRX's are turds, my prev car was a 03 stage 3 Rex and was a monster with the 20g turbo set up, however when it was stock it was so slow, my best 1/8 mile stock was like a 9.60 and stage 3 was like a 8.70, only took it to the track a few time's, I really dont know what a stock ss/sc cobalt runs in the 1/8 so I have nothin to compare it to but im going to bet you would take him in the 1/8th, I really miss that car this time of the year , how I miss the snow filled parking lots at night

i raced one and i luckily (2nd day i had the car) got a good launch and had the wrx in the middle of 2nd gear so about 40 and put him behind steadily after that...it was a 07 with catback and intake...and all i have is an intake so i think you should be fine!

I think that you would be okay from a roll, just make sure you are in your power band! BUT if you going from a dig i think that he will have you just because of the AWD! let us know

Here is a video I shot of one of our members (Brianthelion) racing a WRX with a cat-back and intake.

I like Scobys but the couple I have seen at the track have not impressed me. I beat a extensively modded STi with a pooched launch in my truck at the track. I was a .8 off on the 60' and still got him. I must have had my head up my ass at the line.

I would say that a ST2 Balt vs. a stock WRX should be cake. I have street raced a few in the car and always walked on them. (I know there are fast WRX's but I have not encountered one yet)

standard wrx is slow as ***** without extensive modding, only way he could keep with you is to launch it good and hard.
Before getting a car i test drove a saab 92x -basically a wrx with saab looks- they even took 8 grand off for incentive, i then went and test drove a cobalt SS/SC and fell in love. I do wish i had an AWD, but the looks, the power and the handling far exceed the wrx right out of the box.
