Which one of these is not like the other...

I picked up a SLIGHT (seriously slight, not being sarcastic) miss yesterday while on the way to work. It would do it everytime I shifted and the car got a load at low RPM but clear up if I pushed the car (I makes sense that it would miss when loaded, but it was really throwing me off that it would clear up when I stood on it.

Anyway, decided it would be a cheap fix to try changing the plugs.. First one I pulled was cylinder 1 and the plug was loose and had the end broken off. HOLY CRAP I SAY!

Upon further review, I remember the box of plugs I bought had already been opened and that all of the plugs had been put together (the expander washer thing was already screwed on all of them and the tip had been screwed onto all of them). The broken plug had no washer when I pulled it.. meaning it was missing when I installed and didn't notice :-[

Theory #1: Missing washer allowed the Plug to Suck air around it and leaned the cylinder out possibly causing pre-ignition and detroying the plug... (hopefully not my piston!)

Theory #2: Missing washer allowed the plug to loosen and it was either no longer able to dissipate heat and/or simply the jarring of combustion on the loose plug destroyed it..

Imput?.. Fellow HOLY CRAPERS!?

Not good as you know where the missing parts of the plug went???Clang Clang knock Spit!

Man I can't see a plug with no washer would cause anything like that!

How many miles are on those???

I personally think air/fuel got in there some how and melted / destroyed it...

I dont think it would survive the engine and would just burn up...

If I had to guess I would say it is stuck into the piston or head. Being that it's steel and they're aluminum.. le sigh

Well I voided any warranty it had this weekend anyway.. I added about 2 inches to it (because my GMPP Cat back was too short.. and my tip was not even sticking through the bumper!)..

I pulled my plugs before a dyno day a few weeks ago and my #1 plug had gone out of gap up to 42, I installed them at 38....this after just 5000 miles. It was the only one like that and the electrode felt weak when I tried to regap it, so I just went and bought a new set before the electrode broke off and scored my cylinder walls..

But it doesn't compare to what you got there....you win. I've never seen that before.

If his crown isn't destroyed and it's just sitting there it's highly likely he could just use a magnetic pickup in the injector port and pull it through. PRAY that you don't have to replace that first piston and of course if there's damage then you need to go to the injector mfg and have them pay for it.

Heh.. I noticed yesterday that a "ticking noise" that i've been hearing for a couple days went away.. Wonder if that plug was arcing to the head..or maybe it was blowing by the plug since it was loose.. hrrrmm
