OTTP Heat Exchanger Review & Install

So I finally got around to installing the OTTP heat exchanger, this is the new version with the way larger core. For those that don't know, I used to run a Cobalt Addiction Heat exchanger last summer.

I sold the Cobalt Addiction one, and picked up this one.

For starters the OTTP is far larger than the CA, It almost looks twice as large, heck the OTTP one is bigger than all of the aftermarket SVT Cobra ones available. (I looked at those also, and have all of the core measurements of each SVT aftermarket ones available)

Last year I installed the CA with the bumper on the car, what a pain in the ass, I said I would never do that again. So this time I removed the whole front grill/bumper assembly, which made the install of the OTTP H/E far easier. The hoses from OTTP were so much easier to fit over the nipple on the intercooler pump, and stock heat exchanger, than the steel braided lines the C/A has. This makes it far less prone to leaks from those spots as compared to the C/A one.

The mounting part is also a ton easier because the mounting brackets are actually welded to the OTTP heat exchanger as opposed to the brakets the C/A one comes with. Just drill 2 holes in the bumper and install with the supplied heavy duty nuts, bolts, and washers sent in the kit.

The drain nipple on the OTTP one is also far superior than the C/A one I had.

In terms of overall cooling difference as compared to the C/A one, I haven't yet tested. Its been raining the last few days and my air filter has gotten wet so I haven't done a 2-3 gear WOT run to see what the IAT2 temps will be.

I will update the post later this week on my findings.

Under cruising speeds on the highway there seems to be a difference of between 16-22 degrees difference in IAT1 (ambient temp) to the IAT2 temps I am seeing on my aeroforce scan gauge. Which is pretty good. My C/A one used to bring me a few degrees hotter but not much over the OTTP one. But thats most likely due to the larger fluid capacity the newer OTTP one has.

So overall, I am very happy with the OTTP and highly recommend the newer version to people on the site. I also received great customer service from them

I will take some pics later today

Also there is no fitment issue with this heat exchanger at all, so no worries about it not working on your Cobalt, I still have room to mount my lower SS/TC grill which was a concern before I actually installed it.

Any questions on the product or install feel free to PM me

I installed mine a few weeks ago and yeah the fitment was perfect. I also removed the bumper cover to make an easier install. I did mine with the extra resevoir "hatrickstu mod" and it all went pretty smoothly and it looks awesome.

Yep those hoses on the C/A are a pain in the ass to get over the nipple on the intercooler pump. I had some buised, and scratched up knuckles after my install.
