overheating
no its red it runs at about 180 when i drive but as soon as i sit for alittle in traffic or just siiting somewhere it starts going up and up and when it hits like 215 i always shut it down
My 2000 Cavelier overheats and I think it happens most of the time when I am stopped. I just turn on the a/c and its all good. I was told by a lotta people that the a/c shouldnt cool down my car because it uses the engine more. My engine overheated to 3/4 of the temp gauge and I turned my a/c on. The a/c starts to cool it down immediately. Maybe itl work for you... My friend looked at my car and noticed when i start the engine, one of my fans doesnt always work. Thats the problem but I just dont get how the a/c helps.
when your driving the termastat opens at like 187 or 190, but when you stop it open at like 220-225. Its normal I got scared when I first got my car too, if you don't like it kick the ac on and it will cool down in like 30 seconds.
The engine runs hot, its normal to run 215. Its not the olden days
. The newer engines run more efficiently hotter (to a certain degree :P). It would prolly say something like it is overheating anyways

Well if you're supercharged, I'm assuming that is probably normal. Being that you guys are crank driven, when your car is running, the crank is always spining, hence, your supercharger blades are always physically spinning. If air isn't hitting your after cooler, i'd imagine that it's not going to cool like it would while it's in motion. Granted, it's not spinning at a high rate but if you sit long enough, heat under the hood and heat in your manifold from the spinning supercharger will effect the overall temperature.

.... the ac is just another task for the engine to perform... dunno how u get that outcome.... but an ac will always increase the engine temp. (well, apparently not always) :P

i never heard that turnin the A/c on helps maybe it does but i kno turnin the heat on does...but if its normal or says chevy then i wouldnt worry about it, it seems alil high for a car but its 2006 so could be.....

I live in a very congested area so I'm frequently stuck in traffic. I've seen the temp go up to about 225 degrees F. I'm pretty sure these stout little motors can handle it.
Soulja...Out
BTW... I have a Black one too, and it gets about 70 million degrees in there during the summer. LOL

This is true. Some cars even have one smaller fan just for when the A/C is on next to the large cooling fan.
The a/c does put more load on the engine, but it also over-rides the fan switch and keeps it on constantly, because of that extra load. Putting the a/c on to cool the engine and nothing else only wastes gas. The engine is perfectly capable of cooling itself when it gets hot enough. And a car running at 230, or 3/4 of its temp gauge, or whatever, is not overheating. That's what the red area is for on a gauge, or if the Cobalt got too hot, I'm sure it would beep at you just as it does when you're low on fuel. If you have the Cobalt, just don't look at the temp on the DIC, and you'll be fine.
