PB 2.8" Install Nightmare, Need Help!!!

So after figuring out how to get the slack of the belt. I went after the s/c hub bolts... I couldn't get the bolts to looses up, I actually cracked the socket torx. I still have the other torx. But when I tried turning the hub, the pulley turned too...

How do I stop the pulley from turning, when I try to unloosen it.

Thanks
-Rich

Dude, you have to leave the belt on to keep the pulley from spinning. First, you have to break all of the bolts loose, then take the belt off, and then remove the pulley by taking the bolts out the rest of the way. Some of the bolts are really tough to get out depending on how apeshit the tech went when he put the pulley on. I would try wetting them down with WD-40 or PB Blaster and using a little heat as a last resort. Good luck and try not to break the torx bit.

Maybe put the car in gear? That way the car is resisting you, not just the engine turning over freely.

That won't work. The supercharger isn't connected to anything without the belt on and will spin freely.

The belt was on w/ full tension.

TBH, I am not sure if it was in gear though.

How is everyone else doing it, it was a bitch to try and turn, and the pulley kept turning the belt.

Putting the belt on and leaving the car in gear *should* do it. At that point, you're either going to strip the bolt, slip the belt, or move the whole damn car.

Just loose the bolts a little, then take off the belt, followed by the rest of the bolts.

Maybe you could have a buddy hold the belt tight around the pulley by pulling the belt together under it. If the combo of that with the WD-40 won't do it take it back to the dealer because they must have hot-rivetted it on there. Also, I don't think it will matter if the car is in gear or not because if you are putting enough torque on one bolt to move (not slip) the belt and turn the car over you must be superman.

I had this Problem! IT sucks >>>> With Belt on & Car in gear it was still not Moving & yes I thought I was going to strip it! But it wasnt moving<< So we had to clamp the Pulley & hold it to get the Bolts to Loosen. >>>> Helpfull Hint Apply Pressure slowly but steadily it will come Loose! I had to push till my arm was shaking,,,, This is all to the Helpfull Tech at the Dealer Putting Lock tight on the Bolts, When its only 19lbs in the 1st Place! <<<<ASS
Needless to say my stage 2 Pulley is Fubar!

I had your exact same problem, I took my belt off and went to Autozone and bought a rubber strap wrench and held it really tight and got my friend to loose the bolts.

I use a breaker bar, in betweeen the tensioner pulley and the sc pulley to break the nuts loose. It doesn't take much pressure.

Also buy the PB boys bolts, they use a hex head, and I think they are much easier to work with than the gay ass blue bolts.

So I tried again, I made sure the car was in 1st, and I tried to loosen the s/c hub bolts...

THE GOD DAMN PULLEY JUST KEPT TURNING ON THE S/C.

Sorry, I am just really pissed. Everyone Ive heard on the forum has done there in like 10 minutes, I wasted over 2 hours, and All I have to show for it is one cracked bit from the GM S2 Kit, and 4 screws that are starting to strip.

WTF do I do know?

Please Help.

Edit: Does anyone know where I can buy the 2 bits that came w/ the s2 kit?

I had to have my son hold the tensioner with a wrench to make more belt tension so the pulley didn't spin so you now know how to remove the tension to remove the belt right ???

Well instead have some one pull forward on the wrench that you use on the tensioner & then you can loosen the bolts with out the pulley spinning & be carefull & make sure your torks bit is straight & in all the way cuz if you strip the heads there junk as I was able to reuse them to make it look like STG2 pulley

The dealer that installed my STG2 had the bolts installed to specs & they were easy to remove, but I have read war storys about some dealers installing them way to tight as they should be 15lb. ft. or 22Nm per instructions.

I say take a break from them and come back in like 30 minutes. And if all else fails and you break your bit ill sell you mine for 300 bucks But seriously if worse comes to worse take it to a shop and give them the bit and let them use some air tools. They cant charge you more then 20 bucks.

i havnt taken my pulley off so im not speaking from experience but i have impact guns that i would use. try putting the belt on and find somebody with a quality 3/8 impact gun because they spin up so fast it should loosen the bolts before the pulley spins

Do you have the bit?

Like I said 1 cracked and I dropped the other when somewhere down by the head light.

I have no idea where it went

If the meet is close to the pa/nj border i might...

That sucks. You better get under the car and check or remove the headlight to find that bit. They are definately one of a kind, that's for sure. Get someone to press on the tensioner or belt while you forcefully push in to keep the bit in, and loosen at the same time. If you take the belt off and use a strap wrench that would work great as well to hold the pulley still. GM really screwed you on this one. I installed my stage 2 kit, so it was easy for me to put on the 2.8" pulley. Good Luck.

I got the bit.

I had to take down the right wheel well to get it.

I am going to a friends place tomorrow who owns a shop. Hopefully he can do it.

Did it all work out for you yet? Sounds like a nightmare alright. I'm kind of scared to go to sleep. Its a bitch droping tools down into your engine bay and lights area lol. Since I live in PA, when I do my pulley swap I hope someone from here can help if my father who seems to get everything perfect can't.

Ok here is what you need to do to get it off.

First thing is take the Super Charger off the car.
Then you will need a strap wrench to hold the pully. Make sure its a good one not a cheapy.
Next use an imactgun to remove the bolts. Thats how I did it and it worked realy good. They came right out ro problem and they did have red thread locker on them. (Morron tec!)

My bolts where still able to be used and I didnt strip or brake anything geting them off.

I think it might be a little late for that, my bolts are already starting to strip.

PLUS like I said earlier, one bit broke, and the other BENT when trying to loosen to bolts today...

I now have NO bits.

WTF is that **** made of??

Seriously, the bit is now bent and unusuable because I tried to "crack" (read:loosen) the bolts on the pulley. On top of that the metal of the bolts are warped too...

I might really be eff'ed on this one.

Please help / advise.

Vise Grips may be your next best bet. I think ther might be enough to brag onto, but you'll probably scratch you pulley.
