We have recently found a heat exchanger manufacturer company who is interested in building radiators and intercooler heat exchangers for the cobalt. We wanted to see if there would be any interest as the more quantity we get, the better price we can negotiate.

The reason we have started to look for higher performing rads is for our turbo kit with a front air/air HE as it blocks the stock rad and can cause heat issues down the line. This can also be applied to anyone running a front mount cobra HE.

The radiator is custom built with copper/tin, the copper provides double the coefficient of heat transfer than aluminum radiators. Also these customs HE provide larger piping inside the HE and fins with larger surface areas.

We are planning on providing the following:

1. Radiator replacement

2. Front mount HE for the intercooler

3. Combo of both rad and front HE

 

we also need a better IC pump. the stock electric one has a tendency to stop working.

id be interested in a replacment heat exchanger like used in the grand am cup car. the cobra heat exchanger does the job but it is a lot of extra plumbing that could be removed with a single large heat exchanger.

 

i'm betting the heat exchanger in the grand am cup was too big to keep the A/C radiator, but it still would be cool to have a replacement if it was more efficient and still fit within the sandwich. Also, Cobalt-Addiction has been doing well with the front mount HE (still 4 week waiting list) so i'm sure theres a huge demand for one that bolts right on and has simple plumbing. I know i'd be in the market for one in a decent price range, i've already been considering the CA front mount.

Yeah I've also been looking at CA H/E, but now these guys that are making this H/E, its air to air, no liquid to air, because I've always heard liquid to air is better, but I'm not sure, so if you can make it work with a positive turn over rate I'm Down! let me know

because the superchargers coolant system runs alot cooler than the engine
you wouldnt want to mix them.

ok, so we are thinking of having these options:

1. A thicker core radiator (2-3") that will replace the stock rad and require the stock Intercooler heat exchanger to be removed. This is a great option for anyone running a turbo kit or a front mount HE such as the cobra or CobaltAddiction. Approx price $400-500, but can drop significantly if we get the quantity.

2. A thicker core radiator (1-2") and thicker Intercooler HE (1-1.5") combo that will simply replace both stock ones. We will have to double check this one as the AC HE will still require to be operational. Approx price $700-900, depends on quantity.

3. A front mount HE similar to the cobra, but thicker and a lot more efficient (2-3"). Approx price $300-400, depends on quantity.

If you guys want to see this happen, we will require a $100 deposit to get the project moving. Regardless of which option you want. We will try our best to get the prices as low as possible, but again this will all be custom work which will required design and testing.

As for the IC pump, from our experience the pump fails when there is air in the system. It simply recirculates the air not allowing flow of coolant. Proper bleeding of the IC will fix the problem. Best way to know if your IC pump if functioning correctly is to monitor your IAT2's.

Here's what we typically see for IAT2:
outside temps 75 *F (24 *C) --> IAT2 ~ 120 *F (50 *C) cruising
outside temps 32 *F (0 *C) --> IAT2 ~ 80 *F (27 *C) cruising
