A few points:
First...GM Parts Guy isn't going to have any advantage to the availibility to the GM stage kits over any other dealer. This will be a nationwide offering. Maybe a few delays to some dealers....but his isn't going to be given special dispensation.
I'd be wary of his claims. I'd be wary because he can't spell, and he can't type. Wanna trust him? Not very professional, is he????? I'm waiting for the "send me your deposit" post.
Notice he called then phase kits? Ever heard that before?
Someone commented that we will just be able to copy the new GM program.
Oh really?
I'm curious as to how? Do you know what equipment will be required to do so? Tell me then...be specific.
Do you think GM won't include some hooks in the software that just might prevent this?
And if you could copy it, would you know how to tweak it?
I haven't heard that anyone has even been able to copy the stock software and modify it. Have you?
If that were the case, then why haven't the aftermarket hackers offered software upgrades to go along with their "kits"?????
Seems to me these folks offer add on "fool the computer" tweaks.
Maybe you can copy the GM software.....but guess what, it's machine code....bits, and you will have no idea what it is doing. Unless you have a decode software program that will break it down to tweakable info.
Do you have that? If so tell me what it is, and where I can get it. Again, be specific.
Folks make this claim.....but trust me, it isn't that easy.
About pricing:
The parts are cheap. GM can have 10,000 pulleys made for probably $20 each. Injectors for maybe the same. The belt.......well GM can go to Gates and have them make what they want. We can't! And as far as I can tell, the belt isn't available from anyone but GM.
GM gets to make a profit from this stuff.....it's called Gross Margin. It's how companies make money.
Ever walked into a GM dealer and bought an injector? They cost between $80 and $100 ea. So don't think you can get a set for $100. More like $200 if you can get the cost + 10% deal. And most of you can't get that....you have to pay retail.
The real cost for the GM kits will be the software. And yet some folks here think.....
"it's just a re-flash".
****. How much time and money do you think GM will have invested in the simple re-flash?
They will have had to initiated a program to do the software. Assigned a project manager, assigned a team, and then done the development.
They will have had to deal with resource issues, (Corvette development), problems, etc.
It's more than a few keystrokes. Think about it.......dyno time, driveability time, emissions time, test time......over runs, etc.
How many man hours do you think it took? (you probably have no idea what man hours are)
GM is a business, and their goal is to make money. It's pretty simple.
But they will have a good product, that will meet it's claims, and they will stand behind it. AND it will have real software to go along with it, not some hack "fool the computer" setup.
I'm more than happy to wait for the Generals stufff, I'm not in a big hurry. Why are you?

I am getting so sick an tired of this arguing. On top of that the comparo posts are starting to aggrivate me because I am one of those guys that is waiting on GM's stage 2. After the warranty is up, at that point I can go whole hog. I don't want to sound mean because Intense and RevIt Up are doing great deeds, but you just cannot beat the ECU itself controlling the entire engine. I'm sure later down the road, the ECU will be unlocked all will be free to do as they choose. I think as of right now, our main focus should definatley be a better head, springs, and definately beefy rocker arms!
Hey,
I didn't get a harrumph from the guy in the corner.....
You have to know "Blazing Saddles"
Be patient, the GM kit will be great.
Down the road, the better aftermarket folks will know how to tweak the software.
It's just not happening yet.
We have cool cars, enjoy!

You'd net better HP too, with the smaller pulley.
